In some portraits of Anne Carson, I'd go so far as to suggest there are echoes of Dietrich.

On a personal level, I feel honored that I've met Carson. On a different personal level, I'm glad that the Nobel is celebrating someone shy, peculiar, intense. May all the weird/funny/creative/dark/introverted people of the world live long and prosper.

Many congratulations to Anne Carson for the well-deserved Nobel Prize! This is also great news for Translation, Classics, Poetry, the breaking of generic and disciplinary boundaries, and the fact that you don't have to fit a pre-existing mould to have a brilliant, successful career.

As a former free-range adolescent, I am glad we didn't have chat bots. Sheesh. Glad this kid got rescued.

These folks have many good ideas, even if one wishes to retain a few of the mod cons. (If you know what mod cons are, LOL.) The extreme approach is not for all, but they're onto something.

Awww. School's out. Almost forever, but not quite.
TIL about Alice Cooper's look:

"My eyeliner was inspired by Bette Davis’s crazy makeup in the 1962 film 'What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?' Anita Pallenberg’s Black Queen character in the 1968 film 'Barbarella' was my fashion inspiration."

Quebec separatism had a highbrow element, "had" because I don’t know if that's the case in 2026. Alberta separatism never did. Complex thoughts about Quebec identity have been made into fine art. If such work has been inspired by Alberta's imagined sovereignty, I would like to hear about it.

The kiddos and I explored an abandoned power plant complex today, abandoned long enough ago that there’s a tree growing into the second floor.

Poor Alberta. What is being done to Alberta by political grifters is dangerous and inhumane. There are no ideas or creative traditions for separatists to draw upon. It's based on crude emotions and anti intellectual rumors.

Interesting piece. The editors should have handled the mistaken idea of adoption w more delicacy. An adopted person reading this piece might wonder why the interviewer's provincial stigmatization of adoption is needed. The story is stronger, deeper without the reporter's interjection.

Asking for a friend. Has anyone here received an email saying "I've applied for a job and..." the email contains a link that says "reference verification form is here." This seems OFF. I didn't click on any links. Why would anyone think of me as a suitable reference? Am I respectable???
