So (annoyingly) true. For any students reading: emailing me doesn’t improve your chances of acceptance at all. Probably the only useful point to an email is just to ask if I’m open to taking on new students in the fall. (I am this year.)
One annoying side effect of LLMs is that the "can I do research with your group" emails I've been getting have gotten a lot more verbose, annoying, and completely unbelievable.
