Tried to write about David Lee’s 12 years at NYCFC

but I couldn’t - so I wrote about why I couldn’t

on corporatism, illusion, legacy, authenticity, burritos, and stingrays:

love this idea of “new era of chelsea” and it’s still just as malo gusto/pedro neto slop as ever

first run of play up the left in a half hour is a quick goal of course

The Union wouldn't make Sullivan available for this article because they said he was "overwhelmed." Fair enough, no problem. The next day they put him on Alexi Lalas's podcast instead
For years Cavan Sullivan has been more a prophecy than a player. That changed this summer. We have pro data on him now and it's very, very exciting — by some measures he might already be the best teenager MLS has ever seen.

Wrote about his game for @theguardian.com:
Man City-bound 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan is MLS’s chaotic revelation
The Philadelphia Union midfielder has gotten his longest run of game time since turning pro, and the data is tantalizing

Sports games are events. You can go and have a good time even if you don't know who's playing

Sports fandom is storytelling. It's caring about who's playing and what it all means so you can talk to friends and your barber about it

MLS thinks it's in the first business, not the second
It's not even that MLS is bad at marketing, it's that they seem to have stopped trying? No ads during the World Cup, YouTube original content is non-existent, they laid off or re-assigned their in-house writers and podcasters. I'm just completely baffled as to what they think they're doing.
