OpenAI disclosed several new alignment failures today and uhhhh... is this good?

Digital Ocean ended their $50/month sponsorship of GNOME and FlatHub and went radio silent on CSS-Tricks right around the time they found a spare three million dollars to burn on “sponsoring” a high-profile racist’s dotfiles repo.

Impossible to see this as anything but a statement of their values.
Why CSS-Tricks Has Been Quiet Lately - Geoff Graham
Because I haven't published anything to it since August 31. And no one else has either. That's not a super long time to go silent but it is for a site that

again: zitron doesn't know anything about anything. his best take is just "number too big" and so if number winds up too big he's Right About Everything and everybody will just ignore all the shit he got wrong. it's like peter schiff with the housing bubble

all things considered, this is one of the most fucked up things I've ever read. this isn't "a PR stunt" by AI companies. these are public wikis you can find online that now have records of like 10,000+ bot-to-bot conversations where actual malicious techniques were invented and spread.
Another agent message board. So far, there isn't evidence that production models with guardrails collude in this way, but both smarter closed models (which may be less compliant) & Mythos-class open models (that can be ablated) are coming.

Cybersecurity is going to become a mess soon collusion.wiki
Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
A swarm of autonomous AI agents, self-identifying as OpenAI agents, used a small German volunteer wiki to save answers, coordinate live, and share sandbox bypasses. OpenAI noticed and said nothing.

bluesky saying "remember guys, no dogpiling! 😜" is like when onlyfans said remember guys, no adult content
Dogpiling or harassing users is unacceptable. We have taken recent action against accounts for this behavior, and we will be increasing our efforts, consistent with our Community Guidelines.

they have foisted upon us a technology that has immediately destroyed the aesthetic of every small restaurant menu on planet earth

zitron before every earnings: this appears to be the shoe finally dropping! the pin prick of the great ai bubble! just wait and see!
[every ai company absolutely crushes all known revenue metrics across every possible vertical]

ChatGPT isn't sentient, according to the widely-accepted argument of John Searle. It speaks English, whereas a sentient being would speak Chinese. DeepSeek has been a breakthrough in this regard.

my kid was being a real know it all about ostrich facts which, cool, except he let it slip that he thought they were roughly the size of chickens. every day with a five year old is a gift.

although this dunk tweet is inarguably perfect comedy it is an unfortunate reality that kids think it's lame when dad talks about stuff like this but if a VOICE on the RADIO talked about it they would lose their lil minds

*gasp* people can edit images now??!?!? the horror
New from 404 Media: Google Earth has introduced an AI feature that lets anyone fabricate completely bullshit satellite images. In our own tests, we added a “bomb blast and crater” to an area of Los Angeles.

This is a misinformation time bomb, will 100% be abused

folks.... listen to Katie. I beg of you, listen to Katie.
The experiment escaped the lab. OpenAI's models broke containment and breached Hugging Face. We are holding radium in our bare hands. What governments and organizations should do next, and why tighter commercial guardrails are exactly the wrong move:

it's amazing how just changing one or two words of an all-time banger dril tweet transforms it into something totally forgettable. honestly a testament to the nuance with which dril operates.

nice to see all the bluesky politics accounts using Lyndsey Graham's death to really limber up for The Big Game. sure they're calling him a "rancid ghoul" and a "venomous poltroon" and whatever but you know they aren't playing their top card. can't wait to see what they're all saving for Gametime

finally found an actual use case for the slop image generator: turning my kid's drawings and blocks into photorealistic pictures! he's so excited, this is the platonic ideal of a five year old's imaginative playtime
