Omg what a fascinating analysis. And totally believable. But what happens when/if the global share market collapses?
musicalchairs.bsky.social Musical Chairs @musicalchairs.bsky.social · Aug 31
... meaning our net debt to the world has been shrinking relative to our income for many years. This is mainly because we have sold low-yielding Govt and corporate debt to the world and used the proceeds to buy global shares that have boomed (but, sssshh, look over there) [3/n]

Why are arts, culture, and mātauranga Māori such important ingredients for community climate action? And who is showing up to make change in Pōneke, and how can we build on that energy?

"Reporter: Do any of you have a favorite animal?

Child: My favorite one is a gold snake that can move. It has gold eyes, and it has a super-duper tail…

Reporter: Mr. Mamdani, the second question for you.

Mamdani: Yes. It’s also the golden snake."

Found myself tearing up towards the end. Dunno why really - much of this kōrero is not new to many of us. Maybe I was just inspired and moved by the eloquence and strength of Marama an amazing wāhine Māori standing in such a place and speaking her truth.

Tldr: I went to the famous Oxford Union Debate to hold Empire accountable. Against 3 older power laden men pimping for colonisation. No biggie. I shat myself. It was terrifying. I won by just agreeing to do it, and telling my story anyway. But the win of 163-86 was a bonus.

Have you ever been to a conference where the attendees set the agenda themselves?

It's called "Unconferencing" or "open space" technology and we're big fans!

We believe this helps attendees access the potential of the shared genius in the room and the moment where we meet.

you'd hope as minister or foreign affairs, winston peters, may care about how a new zealander on a valid green card has been kidnapped by ICE, and is now being held indefinitely in a prison in the middle of the mojave desert?
I am a NZ journalist currently based in the United States.  I have been writing about the case of Everlee Wihongi, a 36-year-old Kiwi who has been living in Wisconsin since she was age six. Her father moved to the US in the 90s, when NZ Rail was purchased by Wisconsin Central Rail. He was one of 12 train drivers brought over to bring their expertise to the United States. Everlee got detained by ICE 16 days ago at LAX, and is now locked in an ICE facility in the middle of the Mojave Desert. She was entering the US legally - as she has for the last 30 years - on a valid green card. She is in a cell with 46 other women, with no official idea why she is there or when she will get out.  As deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, and minister of foreign affairs, is your office looking into Ms Everlee's case at all? I have also reached out to the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade for comment.

Predicting onset of symptomatic Alzheimerʼs disease with plasma p-tau217 clocks

OMG you KNOW they serious when they busting out the plasma p-tau217 clocks
A proof-of-concept study published in Nature Medicine reports a method to predict when someone is likely to develop symptoms of Alzheimer's disease using a single blood test. Link to the article in the comments. Or rather, here. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-026-04206-y Predicting onset of symptomatic Alzheimerʼs disease with plasma p-tau217 clocks Nature Medicine (2026) 27k Accesses 803 Altmetric Metrics details Abstract Predicting not just if, but also when, cognitively unimpaired individuals are likely to develop onset of Alzheimerʼs disease (AD) symptoms would be useful to clinical trials and, eventually, clinical practice. Although clock models based on amyloid and tau positron emission tomography have shown promise in predicting the onset of AD symptoms, a model based on plasma biomarkers would be more accessible. Using longitudinal plasma %p-tau217 (the ratio of phosphorylated to non-phosphorylated tau at position 217) from two independent cohorts (n = 258 and n = 345), clock models were used to estimate the age at plasma %p-tau217 positivity. The estimated age at plasma %p-tau217 positivity was associated with the age at onset of AD symptoms (adjusted R2 of 0.337−0.612) with a median absolute error of 3.0−3.7 years. Notably, the time from %p-tau217 positivity to onset of AD symptoms was markedly shorter in older individuals. Similar models were constructed with data from one p-tau217/Aβ42 immunoassay and four plasma p-tau217 immunoassays. These findings suggest that the time until onset of AD symptoms can be estimated using a single blood test within a margin of error that is acceptable for use in clinical trials.
