We have yet to hit rock bottom, and it doesn't look like we're even trying to avoid it. #AI Having a civilized conversation about what we want and don't want AI to do shouldn't be that hard? (if we could let uncontrolled appetite for short term returns aside).

My word for today is: "cognitive surrender". That's when you step aside and let #AI do the thinking for you. It turns out that cognitive offloading is smart use of AI, whereas students or colleagues forwarding tasks made by AI without when reading it is better described as 'cognitive surrender'.

Here's my open letter to @waymo.bsky.social
Waymo should transition toward becoming a public utility or mass transit model by licensing/open sourcing its technology to local governments.

From the creators of "Project Panama", which aimed to scan millions of books without permission. It would explain how some open sourced ai models can get their models built so cheaply.

I had the chance to facilitate a webinar on Anello & Hernandez's Transformative Leadership last Friday. The guest has been facilitating training with youth from around the world and generously shared what she's learned on her path.

#IA users are poisoning the scientific production and sharing. I'm not sure at what speed this is happening (faster than i wish? worse than i imagined?), but the trend seems clear. I'm not sure there are solutions other than beefing up ethics conversations and commitments [throughout our lives].
Let me tell you a story. Perhaps you can guess where this is going... though it does have a bit of a twist.

I was poking around Google Scholar for publications about the relationship between chatbots and wellness. Oh how useful: a systematic literature review! Let's dig into the findings. 🧵

The disruption has already happened, but we still need to make some (AI-informed?) decisions about:
1) monitoring the effects and deciding on what to do regarding negative impacts
2) choose what students need to be able to do on their own vs what they're expected to do using tools.
“Starting in July 2024, AI was suddenly everywhere all at once in Latin America after Meta Platforms started incorporating chatbots in its apps across the region. Whether users wanted them or not, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram became homes for a variety of AI bots.”
Meta brought AI to rural Colombia. Now students are failing exams
When Meta embedded AI bots in its apps, even students in the most remote corners of Colombia gained access. But rather than boosting learning, it’s getting in the way.
