The Redwood Empire Bar and Eatery on Mare Island will close its doors on Oct. 4, one year after it opened to the public.

The whiskey distillery will continue operating and remain open for private tours, tastings, classes, and events.

Longtime Vallejo resident and park advocate Myrna Hayes was arrested Wednesday while approaching the entry gate to the San Pablo Bay Trail on Mare Island, which she said she has been locking nightly for nearly 17 years.

There’s a new ballroom studio in town. Arthur Murray Studios, which boasts private and group lessons for different styles of dance, including waltz, salsa, bachata, tango, and many more, had its grand opening in Vallejo last weekend.

Vallejo’s Planning Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to recommend an inclusionary housing ordinance which would require developers to set aside a percentage of affordable homes when proposing development projects with at least 10 units.

A group of veterans has been protesting the disbandment of their weekly therapy groups at the Mare Island and Fairfield VAs.

A dozen veterans told the Vallejo Sun that the groups were a lifeline. But last year they ended abruptly, with little explanation.
