Addendum: my focus on the community reaction over the situation itself is because it is urgent to address as it is happening. Down the line I will make another clearer thread talking about grooming & abuse. It is harder to have that conversation when people are distracted with infighting.

Not everyone knew about this, yes. But the reality is that the DnB community has a widespread problem with normalized harassment and anti-intellectualism. Many spaces had engaged in mocking, insulting, and ostracizing Red for years simply because he was a "bad guy", even far beyond Lancey's circle.

If you are too upset, stressed, or angry to be able to engage with another person (yes, any person, regardless of standpoint) in good faith and in a calm manner, then do not. Wait until you can. Jumping to argue with people out of heated emotion is contributing to the mass panic and outrage.

What *is* wrong is spreading misinformation, reducing this situation to black & white thinking, and most of all, harassing and insulting others about it. You are entitled to your anger & to process it. You are not entitled to do whatever you want from that anger because the recipient "deserves it".
