A study published in Nature reveals that Europe experienced 16 major floods between 1341 and 1343, including the well-known Magdalena Flood of 1342. The research suggests this event was part of a broader wave of extreme flooding, challenging previous views of how often such disasters occurred. 🧪
Cascading continental-scale floods across Europe in 1342–1343 - Nature
Tracing cascading continental-scale medieval megafloods across Europe indicates that current flood management is unprepared for such sequences, highlighting the urgent need for proactive flood risk management strategies that account for unusual series of extreme flood events.
