Bronze Age Knife
An incomplete copper alloy knife of probable Late Bronze Age date (c.1100-800 BC).
Consisting of a leaf-shaped blade that is missing its tip. The bade has a shallow lozenge-shape section and is extremely thin towards the cutting edges.

We don't have any of these pommels from our two winter camps, but they turn up very regularly at other Great Army-related locations. It's been suggested that they're connected with the Type F sword belt fittings we've looked at before, made in Ireland as sets to outfit Hiberno-Norse warriors. /8
Sadly I don't have any more beautiful Insular harness fittings to offer for this week's Viking camps #FindsFriday - last week was a one-off! However, I thought we'd stay in the west and look at another find from Aldwark. This buckle-plate is ADB925, decorated with knotwork and roundel designs. /1

An 11th century #Hiberno-Norse coin was excavated from Shandon, Co #Waterford within a medieval moated site. In 1910 an 11th-century bone motif trail piece was found in the Shandon area.

It gives us a small glimpse of two craftspeople in Hiberno-Norse Cork — the weaver who owned such a wonderful tool, and the woodworker who carved it so skillfully.

Hopped a fence earlier into a field to see remains of the church and round tower at Rathmichael, South Dublin. The round tower is now more of a stump, apparently called the "Skull Hole" because disturbed human remains were dumped in it. Cool Hiberno-Norse stones too.
