This is such an utterly sickening way to measure mortality. My god
If it was not this conflict, it would be something else. The white supremacists are cooked and they have exactly one play. I'm sorry. That matters to me more than a regional conflict that has claimed fewer lives than the population of my rural hometown.

I was canvassing local businesses for a revitalization project not 2 hours ago, and the owners were still livid about ICE and telling me how much revenue they lost donating to mutual aid rent funds for immigrants in hiding.

Every single business in Minneapolis has a sign like this, still:

Exactly. I am tired of seeing the “I always knew”/“their work was actually bad” takes whenever allegations emerge. Sometimes—often, actually!—bad people find their way into good spaces and make good things. And you’re not better than the folks who were taken advantage of for “always knowing”

this piece identifies a bunch of genuine issues, but is also extremely meandering and sloppy. at one point the authors claim erin deadnamed someone, and only a few paragraphs later it becomes clear that they weren’t actually able to confirm that. wild move to make in a fact-checking piece.

remember: it saved no net money, social services US citizens are getting cut, and left the US in a weaker place geopolitically. none of the debates about fiscal responsibility, obligation to US citizens first, or 'hard choices' actually apply. they're all bullshit. killed people for nothing at all.
Still kind of inconceivable how many people died or will die because of the death of USAID. And the world’s richest man did it almost as a joke

Climate change is as straightforward as it gets: Democrats vote to address it and Republicans vote not to.

There's a weird tic among the pundit class where they think saying "it's more complicated than that" is the intelligent stance on everything but sometimes it's not complicated!

this is so boring but it is incredibly frustrating to see the supreme court be so malevolently silly about third-country removal. there is no balancing of equities that could possibly favor the government, which already HAS THE DETAINEE IN JAIL. are they ordering too much room service?

Just a reminder that this is the same Sen. Schmitt who repeatedly claimed that Chief Judge Boasberg was receiving a disproportionate share of Trump-related cases because he confused the D.C. Superior Court (which has 62 judges) with the D.C. district court (which has 15).
🤡 Schmitt beclowns himself 🤡

Schmitt concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory that Smith traveled to Atl for a Hawks game and to collude with Fani Willis, & flashed his "evidence" before accusing Smith of perjury. There's just one problem -- his facts were totally wrong.

Here's the whole sequence:

Why Democrats Should Stop Using the Phrase “Culture Wars”
Texas’s Gina Hinojosa and others slamming the party for focusing too much on so-called cultural issues are pushing a flawed electoral and policy strategy.

What Singal is suggesting here is that identifying as LGB is somehow a social contagion and the equivalent of a fad.

No one argues social influences aren't real, but what we say is that acceptance and hostility are what determines surveyed self identification rather than actual identities.

They restricted these surveys in multiple states in the last few years. States moved to require opt in with parental consent to administer the surveys. Then the CDC stopped reporting data about gender identity in 2025.

Given the broader anti LGBTQ hostility it's not a surprise numbers declined.

I’m sorry, what? This piece was not a joint publication/ reporting job (as some are). It was @propublica’s alone and the Times followed with a summary. This is so indicative of NYT. If they don’t ignore proper credit, they just go for stolen valor.
