This is how we should see these magnificant animals, not hauled up on a boat or in fillets on a slab. We should no more catch or kill this rare and stunning megafauna than we should trap or kill tigers or whales. Here are some more of Rupert’s photos from yesterday, with his kind permission.

A man builds an IED.

He sets it off in a busy public street.

Shrapnel flies about hitting cars, homes and a child's bedroom.

It's a miracle nobody is injured.

And Reform MP Sarah Pochin calls his imprisonment "disproportionate" and "two tier justice."

It is a signal that communities & ecosystems are under threat from rapid change

Please, BBC, don’t do this simplistic reporting, feeding complacency about climate breakdown

Very surprising to see this claim from the UK Govt on data centres and carbon targets when they (1) very clearly have not accounted for growing data centre emissions in their carbon budgets and (2) by their own admission don't know how much water data centres are using.

So, this has made my day, in fact, my week so far:
Can't say how much I love this.
As a child brought up in poverty, I didn't own a book until I was 11 yrs old.
Mum valued education. Took us to public library every week. Dad was functionally illiterate. School libraries were great, too.
Books have been central to my life. Share the joy if you can x
It's #buyastrangerabook day!

And @kimep.bsky.social is offering to buy someone a copy of Alom Shaha's awesome book Why Don't Things Fall Up?

So, if this is something you'd like, just get in touch.

The two most revealing questions one can ask about American politics and foreign policy today are:

1. How would we describe this if it were happening in a country of the Global South?

2. How would we describe this if the person doing it were Russian?

Is she a female calf, to be raised as a dairy cow? A constant cycle of pregnancy & calving for 5 years, worn out at that point & slaughtered.
