The zoo.

Birthday party for 10 year olds at the zoo. Guided tour. All cool this and chill that but all trying to beat each other to be first to answer the guide. Afterwards rough housing and later extra walk with questions fired at me. I’m into animals, answered them all with ease.

Son has kid that is smitten with him. Kid sees daughter as rival for his attention. Some conflict about that. Son obviously oblivious to it all. Just wanted to say “obviously oblivious “.

‘Ziek-ow-achtig’: jittery with nerves. Son is building his repertoire.

At the zoo, a lady had trouble getting the carriage up a rocky path. “Why did you help her, daddy?” -“Because it is the right thing to do.” “But she didn’t pay you.” What a capitalistic munchkin.

Daughter painted her nails. I don’t like that. “I don’t like that, I think it’s ugly.” -“No, daddy, it’s blue!”

Streaming music. Daughter returns while Jurassic Park’s intro plays. Ok, ominus but can happen. Next on the random playlist: Anakin vs Obi-Wan (Star Wars episode 3). If the next one is as ominous as these two, I’ll camp in the attic for the rest of the day.

Daughter is in the highest math group. She likes it because in the lower group the teacher reads the exercise. “I can read the assignment myself!”, daughter sighted. She feels that 5 second gain is totally worth it.

Daughter opened her door when I wad about to sleep. So sleepy she thought she was already in the bathroom. Guided her to the toilet. Waited for her. She started an evil laugh. I checked up on her. It was a way for her to make me open the door. Let’s blame it on a sleepy kid being weird, right?

Sometimes authors write characters are singing but you don’t know the tune. So you try to make it work. Daughter went to bed singing the “anthem” of gnome land I read her about (the very old Dutch series) a few weeks ago. She was totally ready to hear the next few chapters of the gnome!

Had to go to the doctor’s to get daughter’s ear checked out. Was fine but doctor pulled some ear smear out. “So no excuse you didn’t hear anyone, anymore!” Her eyes widened with shock: her favorite trick is now busted.

While playing a video game, daughter encouraged her character: “Go go go with those short little legs!” I use those words as well to tease her to run a bit faster. Funny to see her pick that up.

“You can’t take that path: it crossed the water, I don’t want to risk you getting wet.” An hour later she returned. “I saw you take that route twice, so I’m not happy you didn’t listen.” “I took it thrice, daddy, not twice.” She doesn’t need a shovel to dig herself a deeper grave.

At the zoo I entertained myself by yelling out “donkeys” till the kids told me off for calling them names. I smugly pointed to the Somalian wild donkeys to our right. Have to get my giggles somewhere.

“Will you listen to the teacher?” -“I will try.” And “Will you behave with grandpa?” -“I don’t know.” She’s very honest that’s for sure.

Went to an amusement park. Asked what daughter wanted to do: “Shopping!”, she exclaimed enthusiastically. I asked it again the next day. She replied about shopping again. It will be expensive.

Every other night I put daughter to sleep while reading a bedtime story. I read a series of books about a sort of gnome. Very old, like published 50 years ago. “Daddy, will you read again today?” -“Of course.” The whispering “yes” and fist pump were adorable.

New F1 season underway. Son seeing Antonelli do a hand signal and subconsciously mimicking it. Rather cute.

Noticed a mom with a broken taillight. Her reply: “Yeah, it does that sometimes.” 😳 Safety last?

Daughter is sick. Slept right after school, didn’t eat much. Off to bed to sleep some more. Asked mommy to get me to read her a bedtime story. Bravely fought to stay awake to hear the end of the chapter.

Wife wants to rewatch Frasier. But perhaps Keeping Up Appearances is more suitable to watch with kids. Daughter suggested Shaun the Sheep. She won.

“Oh, there’s football/soccer on tv tonight” -“Shame you’ll miss it.” What the devil is she planning to do tonight?!
