excellent argument for punching nazis. plenty of them are the sheltered little fuckers who don't believe that real pain and trauma exist
Former Kanye West aide Milo Yiannopoulos on his ICE arrest:

"I don't think I've ever been afraid before... It was humiliating, it was physically degrading, it was frightening... I wouldn't wish it on anyone"

i have a theory for improving society. the richer you get, the more rights you should lose. EG launching lawsuits against public transit over the right to keep your nice views: peninsulaforeveryone.org/blog/atherto...
Atherton spent ~$145K to delay Caltrain electrification. The rest of us paid $400 million and waited 3 extra years
The Town of Atherton's lawsuit against Caltrain electrification is the clearest case study we have of how a tiny, wealthy minority can hijack a regional public project — and stick everyone else with t...

to the extent that mathematical literacy is necessary for a strong left (which is a lot if we want to preserve the benefits of technology and a big population), i despair, and this thread is evidence why
Here's a spicier take.

If you're on the left, an idea that it's gonna be really important to understand going forward is that, if you create a tighter labor market and higher wages for low-skill workers, it will cause prices of low-skill labor-intensive goods and services to rise (and that's ok)
Just to expand on this:

The dynamic was basically:

Voters: Fast food hamburgers went from $3 to $9. I don't like this.

Biden/Harris: Look, I'm sorry about your burger or whatever, but there are real people out there with real problems.

Trump: I will fix this on day 1. It will be so easy.

@rechelon.bsky.social not sure how to reach out to you, so doing it here. i recall you saying a while ago that leftists are often too obsessed with maintaining the integrity of the group over addressing injustice and people splitting can be good. thanks for saying that

Would love to blame solely situation bad republican governance, but unfortunately it is human nature to discount rare events and underprepare for disasters
In 2018, Kerr County debated installing flood sirens, but the $1 million pricetag was considered too high. “Trying not to raise taxes,” a commissioner said.

And this year, the Texas Legislature didn’t pass a bill to help fund outdoor sirens.

Officials Pushed for Better Warning System for Years Before Deadly Floods
A sheriff in 2016 recalled pulling ‘kids out of trees’ in summer camps as leaders repeatedly discussed installing a siren system, but didn’t do so.

The chenoweth stat makes no sense. So if 3.5% is militantly for something and 94% very against, how does the 3.5% win? Does the side supporting 1/6 not count as a 3.5% movement?
