Not actually the Neolithic Xiaoheyan clay hedgehog, I just relate to their expression. Working somewhere at the intersection of DH, archives, material culture, mapping, and probably other things.

I adore Alexandria and visit whenever I can - glad to learn more of the city’s history!!
87 years ago, 2 decades before the Greensboro sit-ins & the larger Student Movement kicked off, 5 young Black men in Alexandria, VA, asked for library cards, were refused, and sat down to read. They were arrested. Their actions yielded the Robinson branch. www.alexandriabrief.com/87-years-ago...
87 years ago today, five young men sat down in an Alexandria library and started something
The 1939 sit-in at 717 Queen St. came two decades before Greensboro. A virtual panel marks the anniversary at noon today.

Unsettling! I enjoyed it! Could have done with more Tim Curry.

Bit too tired for running commentary tonight, but those are my thoughts for this week's #FolkHorrorFriday feature.
You're not going to believe this, but The Blackcoat's Daughter has been taken off Tubi AGAIN.

Instead, we will be watching THE SHOUT (1978). Apologies for the last-minute change.

#FolkHorrorFriday
Next week (8/7) for #FolkHorrorFriday we'll be watching THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER (aka FEBRUARY). Join us at 9pm ET and stream the movie for free on Tubi!

Mystery swag, GIS conference edition! Maybe 2”x3”; the slide on the back pushes a soft felt-covered bit from the bottom and the front opens and rotates back up to 270 degrees. Device stand?? Not sure, but it’s making my imposter syndrome worse 😂😂😂

This is so reassuring to hear - thank you for saying it! I’d love to get back around to some emails from around a year ago. For the record, I don’t mind a very belated response either!
Personally, I don't mind if you pick up an email thread months or even years later. It happens ALL THE TIME in archives. Sometimes you think you're ready to tackle something, but you find out (surprise!) it's way bigger & more complex & emotionally loaded than you originally thought. That's okay!
Oh, and also: we need to normalize shame jubilees. We should hit the point where someone sends you an five month old email and they're like, "Hey, I'm finally responding because I'm on my shame jubilee" and you're like "Oh, that's awesome, I'm so glad you're having one right now!"

Please consider writing a piece for this volume on Africana Digital Humanities at HBCU’s. I’ve worked with each of the editors, and they are all top notch humans! ( please circulate as well)

Joining in #FolkHorrorFriday fun for the first time tonight. Best idea I’ve had in a while. Of course, not even 10 minutes in and there’s a self-proclaimed archaeologist 😆😄 Between this and Lair of the White Worm, has anyone thought about why archaeology pops up in folk horror? Any other instances??
Tonight! We watch Play for Today: Robin Redbreast, a made-for-TV movie that has been getting more attention in the last few years as interest in folk horror has exploded. Join us at 9pm ET, free to stream on Tubi.

Tried to do the dentist as well, but the office I called was booked out until February. o_O Apparently 30% of dental hygienists quit during/after the pandemic?? Can’t say I blame them. We’ll try again tomorrow …
This is your loving reminder to call and make those appointments you’ve been putting off making. I just scheduled an eye exam and it took 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Take care of yourself. It takes practice, but it’s worth it.
