What does it mean when we say the North Sea is a mature basin?

💯BBC keep reporting as fact what is kite-flying by industry sources and a small number of loud figures in Labour/Unions who are trying to bounce government into a decision. How it twice ended up as the top story on the BBC website before vanishing into nothing I don't know - poor editorial decisions
I'm not saying that neither Jackdaw nor Rosebank will be approved, but I am saying that BBC reporting on the issue is poor and I wouldn't put any faith in it.

With the UK continental shelf running out of oil and gas, the North Sea economy is on life support.
On the North Sea Transition Authority’s projections, combined oil and gas output will fall a further 40 per cent between 2024 and 2030, and by 93 per cent by 2050.

This article is utter garbage because it never mentions demand, it never mentions composition of 'traders' portfolios (more LNG, less pipe) and it buried this 2/3 of the way down in an article with 'panic' in the headline. Shameful gutter nonsense.

Very cool - switching from gas to electric induction cuts kitchen temperatures by 10 degrees, cuts hob cleaning times from 24mins to 21 seconds, cuts energy use by 2/3rds (a 9k saving in one pub) and yes - wok hei is still possible

The most funky stuff is of course the CCS angle. Offshore O&G is a competitive place for investment, why would you spend (and lose money) on a CCS hell scape rather than say low cost offshore African development?
