This is big. Typical modi/bjp fearmongering abt protesters as “anti nationals” is not working against largely Hindu, student-led protests.

“Protesters are demanding sweeping reforms and a rollback of a controversial voter revision exercise which has struck 130 million names from the voter list.”

Afterward, we’ll march together to Foley Square to join the larger protest against yesterday’s ICE shooting.

it's fun to fantasize about Zohran firing Tisch and arresting ICE but he's a fucking Muslim mayor and Donald Trump is president and I don't think enough people are using their brains here
Seeing Zohran next to his police commissioner he didn’t pick and couldn’t afford to fire, following his righteous outrage with bloodless cop speak, and followed by the state AG declining to comment at all, shows how precarious his position is.
like what do you even do here? mamdani spent two hours on the phone trying to persuade him, but donald won’t withdraw ICE; do you just YOLO it, order NYPD to arrest ICE agents, despite the supremacy clause? is NYPD even going to obey orders from the mayor’s office if they disagree with those orders?

I think what frightens me most is that the sheer volume of things to be horrified by has become its own kind of protection for the people responsible. Nothing has to be explained or resolved becuase a story or a scandal or a tragedy only has to survive until the next thing happens in five minutes.

Trump: I'll let the Iranians hit Southern California

The press (slur): what did he mean by this?

Trump 24 hours later: I said the Iranians should hit San Diego or Los Angeles. With a missile. It will be traumatic.
Trump: You wanna see trauma? I said it the other day. Let them hit a missile into San Diego or Los Angeles.

This is just a relentlessly horrific story.

It’s hard to adequately contextualize the moral desolation of this unfolding in the midst of a midterms against a ruling party helmed by inveterate rapists and rape apologists.

Some unintended consequences I suspect the rise of AI agents will create:

1. Restaurants that only take reservations by hand written letter, or more likely, don't take them at all.

2. Gigs where you can only buy tickets in person.

3. Businesses that operate without websites.

Someone like Sam Schwartz should really know better. This is an incredibly stupid thing to say. Ebikes and escooters are the BEST tools we have for improving safety, by actually enticing people on to micromobility. To say nothing of the environmental benefits of light electric vehicles.

I think it is important to emphasize that we change physical sex, though idk how to do it without opening the "transsexual" can of worms
“When a trans person transitions, and takes the hormone matching their gender identity, every aspect of their body changes, from physical strength, to secondary sex characteristics, to gait, to hair production, to bone growth, in some cases, even vocal intonation (primarily for trans men).”
Concede Nothing
Trans people are who we say we are, and we will fight and organize on those grounds.

These guys keep imagining a Benevolent Dictator that exists solely in their own heads because they imagine it to be them personally, and they can’t shake the juvenile fantasy that if everyone was forced to obey them personally all problems (namely people defying them) would be solved
“Democracy has been hailed as, like, the holy grail for the last couple hundred years, but democracies are inefficient,” said the crypto billionaire. “If you get a benevolent dictator, it’s actually extremely efficient."

Hmm, where have I heard this before?

this is all a joke to them because far-right conservatives think that rape is good, and that high status men should be entitled to rape any women around them who are not also already attached to other high-status men. this is their actual ideology
One of the most heinous examples is Matt Walsh suggesting that, actually, Jane Doe raped the frat boys because they were also under the influence.

I thought it bore a certain resemblance to some of Andrew Johnson’s comments on slavery.

Important reminder to vote yes on the ballot question that would allow the mayor's office and DOT to speed up the installation of safe street designs, bike lanes, and transit upgrades. These are the people who want to retain their veto and keep us mired in a dysfunctional status quo.

The same people who are still furious about having to show a vaccine card for a few months in 2021 are completely fine with U.S. citizens being detained and assaulted without due process by a partisan secret police force with no standards or accountability.
The government *still* isn’t tracking how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens.

We are.

500+ Americans have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint or held against their will in Trump’s second term.

Our tally is almost certainly an undercount.

I think this is a fundamental misunderstanding of the problem at hand. The issue is not people who feel that their lives are empty and meaningless. It is precisely the opposite: people who yearn for a perfectly comfortable and empty life and lash out at the countless frustrations of existence.
This feels dead on. To raise a bit of a prompt: what do people think is the alternative to present to people who say “my life feels empty”?

A. “Don’t look to politics for it”
B. “You have no reason to/shouldn’t feel that way”
C. “We have a better way to find meaning”
D. Don’t care about these votes
feels like at least part of what is happening is that a lot of people want politics to solve the "my life feels empty" problem and the populist right is directly appealing to them
