this is great! this, but generally for everything with a gui settings page or a cli that tries to manage config. allows you to experiment with settings and you should commit them to declarative when you are ready to move the config from experiment to committing.
My PR adding mutable user settings for VS Code was just merged in home-manager!
When enabled, home-manager merges your declared settings into the existing json settings. Declared values win, while unrelated settings changed through the editor are kept.
