Husband & dad x3. Lover of snow, XC skiing, biking, sailing, trails, books, general nerdery, trees, kindness, and Sunday morning pancakes. Living in Anchorage, Alaska.
I’m gonna miss my trusty Sunbeam F1 when my LightPhone III finally comes. I’ll be happy to have the better camera and directions app, but a flip phone is such a great conversation starter!

(That’s me DJ’ing at my kids wedding.)

Omg, this is some amazing art! I’d love an Alaska version of this. (Maybe a magpie or bald eagle for the colors?)
Love coming across stuff like this. Someone called Rickdadick450 on the welding subreddit created this mechanical vulture out of old typewriter and calculator parts. It rocks, and doubly so if you’ve read M. John Harrison’s “The Pastel City”.

Fun new plants coming up in my lawn. I've been mowing at the highest setting for about five years now, and it's allowing an increasing diverse collection of plants to thrive. I _think_ this is common eyebright. I hope this one spreads!

I just ordered six of these lovely 5" adhesive emblems from Black Heart Decals. The Tick has always been one of my spiritual guides, but particularly so in these difficult times.

That’s me in Kiana last year coaching for Skiku last year. What an amazing program! Life is crazy-full right now, but I’m starting to regret not signing up this year. And for anybody curious, here's info about Skiku: www.skiku.com/about/what-w...

Per ISER's recent presentation to Senate Education Committee: "After adjusting for geographic costs, Alaska's per pupil spending is 15% below the national average and has fallen consistently since 2017." And there's lots more great info in the presentation.

It’s good to see Protect Our Winters make it to Bluesky.
The South got buried in historic snowstorms, while the Midwest & Alaska saw record-low snowfall and floods. This isn’t just a random storm—it’s a sign of a bigger climate shift.

It's crazy to see these kind of podium finishes from Alaskan athletes! Given our tiny population, we're punching *far* above our weight on the national stage these days.

And credit to Gus for continuing to speak up on climate change: protectourwinters.org/alliance/gus...

Alaska has about 1,200 total probationary federal employees, representing about 10% of the federal workforce.

In comments to the #akleg, the steward of Alaska's federal employees union says that's about $88M in wages.

Yowzers! I just finished listening Dave Waldron interview @neildegrassetyson.com and Aaron Slonecker (director of the Anchorage Museum Planetarium) on Hometown Alaska. Nice work, @alaskapublic.org.

Don't forget to contact your representative if you support this bill! And regardless, it'll always be Denali.
The Alaska House is set to take up HJR4, a resolution opposing changing Denali's name.

This morning, the resolution advanced out of the Rules. It is on hold for a minute while waiting for an amendment to be distributed.

Well, the weather in Southcentral Alaska definitively sucks. I wish we could have our snow back. But there's an always an upside: Eklutna Lake should set up nicely for ice boating!

Two of the three Republican senators who voted against Pete Hegseth’s nomination (Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins) were elected via ranked choice voting, and so don't need to worry about facing a Republican primary for defying Trump. Mitch McConnell retires after this term, so neither does he.

Hey, Anchorage! Yeah, the weather sucks, but it’s gonna be an killer time at the Anchorage Folk Festival tonight at the Wendy Williams Auditorium. Local acts start at 7:00 PM, and the headliner (AJ Lee & Blue Summit) kicks off at 9:00 PM. Here's a video to get y'all excited: youtu.be/c8QTlKjhEyQ?...

Just got back from coaching Junior Nordic at Kincaid Park. Yeah the low-snow winter sucks, and yeah, lots of other things suck. But spending an hour teaching a bunch of merry 7- and 8-year-olds to XC ski is just incredibly uplifting. #Anchorage #Alaska #XCSki

Fatbiking last year with record snow, fatbiking today with almost none. It’s still fun, but I want winter back. #alaska #bikesky

In the John Hughes social spectrum of my youth, I was way over on the "freaks and geeks" end of things, so I never imagined that I'd wear the title of "coach." But this year I'm coaching the West High XC ski team. What a blast, and what an inspiring group of teens! #Anchorage #Alaska #XCSki

So sad the hotel project didn’t come to fruition. This side of downtown needs a really great anchor project.
The Sixth Avenue bus depot in downtown Anchorage reopens Tuesday following a four-year closure, after a municipal entity terminated a deal with a private development team for a hotel project at the site. www.adn.com/alaska-news/...
