I'm back, I missed you all.

Since this is an important subject I know too much about, here's a 🧵 explaining that

AI Safety Is Mostly A Sex Cult.

I don't think these people should make policy. (1/?)

a lot of folks are asking how someone can do something so "stupid" as hard coding a secret token, and i'm telling you that you are holding software developers and companies on way too high a pedestal if you still think there's secure, quality code being sent out into the world
HaJ3FgupAm8RrDJW3MHgT9X7Ft27eVaD

What is that? That's a hard-coded API token that Flock cameras use to identify themselves and get OAuth credentials, which can then be used to talk to Flock's production servers. Like, anyone on the internet can probably do this right now.

Genuinely an insane paragraph from Sam Alito. “Voter fraud is real and scary and we have to stop it, so the fact that implementing Trump’s mail ballot rule will disenfranchise millions is legally irrelevant.” Brain melted. A right-wing podcaster in a robe. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

If you have nothing to say about Israel destroying 80+ villages in Lebanon *with US made and provided armored bulldozers* but would like to have AOC et al condemn a random podcaster for saying something descriptively unequivocally true about Hezbollah you're obviously just pro-Israel? lol

Never stops hitting me the way everyone in mainstream discourse agrees that if we want to help people, we first have to convince Republicans, while everyone in mainstream discourse also agrees that Republicans do not have to convince any of us before they hurt people.

This is just round 2 of people blaming Arabs for Harris' loss. If your calculation is that you'll net more votes by burning a vulnerable demographic, you do not get to be mad when they're mad at you. Trying to then browbeat them into your preferred messaging is both counterproductive and immoral

i don't believe talarico is a bigot. im pretty sure he isnt. but if he apparently "has to" answer bad faith questions in a way that appears to compromise on the rights of one group of people being repressed to get elected, it's fair to ask what else he will "have to" do once he's in office

The key thing about the "Kamala Harris probably would have been tougher on Israel and she was just hiding that fact until after the election" narrative is that she's had approx 2 years to come out and say it and hasn't really done so

a year later, looking back, I think Charlie Kirk marks the high water mark of the right's cultural dominance

for a little bit there they actually managed to force civil society as a whole to crack down on people saying mean shit about one of their own, and it turned out to be a massive overreach

at this point: carbon removal is, at best, essentially a research project. renewable expansion is a policy project
At the moment we have no real idea how to scale up carbon removal--it's a hair on the mole of the ugly backside of the global hydrocarbon industry

But we do know how to scale up solar panels and wind turbines and batteries. So that's our job
