In the process of following Jesus I found myself at odds with the prison industrial complex. Lift, Run, Girl Dad, Bike Infrastructure, Nashville TN.
What they said

“Starting this war is God’s plan which will bring about the return of Christ.”

What they mean

“By committing a mass blood sacrifice of Muslims an ancient deity will be conjured, who will return to carry out a mass genocide while opening a portal for us to pass into another realm.”

There is a woman riding a lime scooter on the highway at the bottom of downtown between exits 209C and 210 B. She’s on the shoulder, but, straight up using the highway on a lime scooter.

As a pastor I would often use the term “the Kingdom of Heaven.”

The older I get the more I believe that advancing the “Kingdom of Heaven” is community organizing.

A better networked, better resourced, better organized neighborhood, looks more like Heaven.

I’m horrified by the Epstein stuff.

The combination of the evil of what was done

The ongoing coverup attempts

The ambivalence of Trump supporters.

It’s all so evil.

Any other Nashville Dads got sleds and ready to get Shreddy O’Connell?

The cognitive dissonance of believing that women shouldn’t vote but also being fine with showing your papers to secret police because Kristi Noem said this is how it is now.

It’s really rude for our government to do all this fascism during Dry January.

You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today.

This could be you.

Evil. Detestable. Shameful.
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

Being in a family that has had interactions with the foster care system, I always feel something in the pit of my stomach when I see those “in the black“ vanity plates.

We live in the state that has defunded care to the most vulnerable and then we celebrate it and call it “fiscal responsibility.“
An audit conducted by the Tennessee Comptroller found in northeast Tennessee, children spent an average of 18 days housed in government offices during the same six-month period. One child spent 104 days in an office.
Despite improvements, DCS continues to fail Tennessee children, audit finds • Tennessee Lookout
An Tennessee Comptroller audit outlines new and persistent failures in caring for abused kids by the Department of Children’s Services.

When I have extra emotional energy, I like to mess with people who are pro confederacy, anti-woke, and say that the Confederates were the Democrats, as if that means something helpful for today’s discourse.

“So you support the Democrats?”

I believe that one of the biggest divides in American politics is between those who ask the question

“What do other people deserve?”

Versus

“What do other people need?“

Debate has little to do with whether an idea is good or bad.

When I was a philosophy student I took ethics and logic.

In ethics we learned how to wrestle with “the good.”

In logic we learned how to argue. We regularly had to argue points we didn’t believe. Because our conviction was irrelevant.

I wish Andy Ogles was as passionately concerned about the sexual predator in the White House as he is a sexual predator on the streets of Nashville.

I know, they sit all day. Which is why everyone is borderline diabetic and has back issues.

Hot take:

Chest pockets are useless. All shirt pockets should be at stomach height like on chore coats.

If I put a screw in a chest pocket, it looks like something has gone awry with a nipple.

This is a hill I will die on.

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.
