The solution (allowing asylum seekers to work) is unworkable politically because we're simply too racist to allow that
I really don't think that what people want is more expensive takeaway and more listless men hanging around with nothing to do while their asylum claims are processed:

I listened to Ed Davey on the Today programme this morning, and frankly, I think he missed the point.

The idea that we're keeping the triple lock to help millennials is at best for the birds, and at worst downright insulting. I say that as a millennial.

Excellently written argument about what democrat politicians miss when they avoid talking about 'culture war' issues. Could equally apply to the current UK Labour party.
"Economic issues not cultural wars' produces a party that both loses elections and abandons moral causes and vulnerable people. That’s not a theoretical argument—it’s the story of the Democratic Party of my entire adulthood." newrepublic.com/article/2159...
Why Democrats Should Stop Using the Phrase “Culture Wars”
Texas’s Gina Hinojosa and others slamming the party for focusing too much on so-called cultural issues are pushing a flawed electoral and policy strategy.

Feminism doesn't require women to see trans+ people as the enemy.

For many of us, feminism has always meant challenging inequality, standing alongside people whose rights are under threat, and refusing to accept that one group's equality must come at another's expense.

That's our feminism too.

Has someone in the policy unit been at the sherry again?

If we've got a few billion to spend, I'm pretty sure there are more important priorities than tax cuts for the top 20% of earners.

Like, you know, the NHS, SEND, transport infrastructure, or even carers.

I'm pretty sure there's more job losses in academia than in oil and nobody seems to give a shit
I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed.

25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it!

Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.

Day of the Tentacle is the first thing i remember getting really engrossed in, and thereafter all the Lucas Arts adventures. Civ 2 when I was a bit older. And Mario 64 was my entry into Nintendo, having seen it in Toys 'R' Us and wanting an N64 immediately.

So that's media-backed calls for MSF and Bash Back to be proscribed as terror organisations, while JKR threatens to sue Amnesty, and pensioners are still being arrested for pro-Palestine protests.

How's that compromise and discussion with the far right going, centrist libs?
A campaign for *MSF* to be banned as a terrorist group (on the paper thin basis of claims about 2 past employees) is the product of the UK Govt being willing to divorce any meaningful conception of societal threat from its use of proscription powers. Govt needs to wake up to the madness of this:

Autism and ADHD have many things in common, among them is this:

Both are defined not by how people who have them experience them, but by the features of them that annoy neurotypicals. So of course research is focused on eradication, because who wouldn't want to be rid of annoyingness?
It's depressing to me that whenever this comes up, I see a load of griping about how this is diverting funds from REAL autism research, like… genetic studies aimed at preventing us from existing.

I'm begging anyone posting about this to listen to what autistic people need.

bsky.app/profile/oolo...
It's depressing that a dedicated promoter of pseudoscience is taking a hatchet to research for no good reason, but that so little of that research was any use to anyone anyway.

Maybe when autism research is eventually revived, it can be focused on things that are actually helpful for Autistics?
