Blizzard's catching flak right now for not banning Asmongold (again), but I think it's important they *also* catch flak for paywalling their first HotS character in 6 years—the first major announcement at BlizzCon this year!—for upwards of *two months* before she's generally available. Insane stuff.
Snippet from the Heroes of the Storm Xal'atath update announcement. "You can unlock Xal'atath now for USD $7.99! For those of you that would prefer to use gold, our aim is to make her available for gold later this year, tentatively set for the end of November. For launch, we have two key goals that led us to only making her available through direct purchase right now. The first is simplicity: we want to make it as easy as possible for all players to acquire, whether you have played every day for over a decade or this is your very first time trying out Heroes of the Storm. The second is to help us best gauge sustainability, which leads us into the philosophy and design pillars guiding our team."

Still early, but I appreciate that Guild Wars 3 is doubling down right from jump on the movement/exploration mechanics that made 2 so much fun. The simple act of getting around in GW2 is joyful and near frictionless in a way that its contemporaries haven't been able to match even ~10 years later.
Promo text from the Guild Wars 3 website: Explore the Frontier Glide, ride, leap, and wall-run across Orr with a one-of-a-kind movement system that transfers your momentum between modes of travel, providing a free-form joy of movement through a world alive with adventure.

Illustration of an elvish woman with pale skin and long, lavender hair, standing straight and holding a scythe in both hands. She’s dressed in a purple chiton adorned with celestial imagery in gold. There’s an amulet hanging from her neck depicting a pair of hands clutching a ruby heart. The background features outlines of stars and crescent moons in various sizes. Sketch of a light-skinned woman with sky blue eyes and black hair with blue highlights. She's wearing a blue and black leather coat, with a frilled white collar poking out around her neckline. Her hair is tied back in a ponytail and has a blue rose pinned in it for decoration. She's holding a pair of swords, one in each hand, posed in the middle of swinging them both out to either side. Her eyes and hair highlights are both crackling with electricity, and there’s an intense look on her face. Illustration of a human woman with long, emerald green hair laying on her front over a Pride colored bedsheet. She's wearing a green halter top with matching underwear. A necklace is visible on the bed in front of her, adorned with a sapphire-studded silver rose; in the background are strings of blue and green lights, with a heart-shaped light where the strings intersect. There's a green heart in the air above her outstretched hand, as if conjured for the adoration of whoever she's looking at. Illustration of a grey-skinned drow with a scarred face and ear piercings, standing with their arms crossed. Their hair is black with white highlights and tied back in a neat bun. They’re dressed in a long-sleeved black shirt with red floral patterns along the body, along with a pair of plain grey pants. The background is intricately detailed and features four dark-colored wings at the corners, along with various celestial imagery like stars, suns, and crescent moons.

New fashion for my favorite round boy Grendel, with a cameo from best bro and possible husband Gauss. Love the new skin, love the emotes, doubly love the chainsaw sword weapon skin bundled with it, love it all. DE's art team cooked yet again.

I actually had to think about this a fair bit for one of my recent characters! On top of being a dancer, one of our early sessions saw us infiltrating a high-end party, so naturally we needed something fancy to wear. She's not much on magic, though, so her looks trend more towards conventional.
Sketch of two women dancing together. Cilia, the first, is a light-skinned woman with sky blue eyes and black hair with blue highlights, wearing a long dress in blue and white; Bolero, the second, is a blue-skinned tiefling with white hair, wearing a flashy black dress and a masquerade-style eyepatch over one eye. They both look like they're having fun. Illustration of two women embracing against a night sky background. Cilia, on the right, is light skinned and has long, straight black hair with blue highlights. She's wearing a long blue dress with gold accessories, and has a blue rose pinned in her hair. Inda, on the left, has tan skin and short brown hair, and is sporting a light gold dress with flowery accents. She has a pair of wings protruding from her back, one of which is prosthetic. The two of them are holding each other by the waist in what appears to be a private moment. Illustration of a light-skinned woman with sky blue eyes and black hair with blue highlights. She’s wearing a long blue dress with gold accents, with a Pride-themed dancer’s ribbon flowing around her. Illustration of a light-skinned woman lying on her side next to a pair of swords. She’s wearing a long blue dress with gold accents, with a necklace of shark’s teeth around her neck. Her hair is black with blue highlights and hangs straight down behind her shoulders, undecorated save for a blue rose pinned to one side. Her eyes are closed in an expression of calm contemplation.

Still a lot of catching up to do after having been out of Final Fantasy for a while, but so far I have to say I am greatly enjoying my newly unshackled fashion options. Waiting for the day when I don't have to worry about wardrobe item limits, but still. Good change.

Screenshot of a red-haired Warrior of Light posed in the middle of an astrologian spell. She's wearing a red shawl with a black undershirt and a pair of reading glasses. Her arms are both raised in a spellcasting gesture, and the purple glow of her star globe is visible near the top of the frame. Screenshot of a red-haired Warrior of Light on the neon-lit streets of Solution Nine. She's dressed in red and black leather with long boots and arm covers. She's crouched low and forward with her arms fanned out behind her, as though in the middle of a dance. There's a playful grin on her face. Freshly shined shinies from the folks at @peculiarityshop.bsky.social. Now to figure out how to wear a hairpin I guess.

Not pictured: @hillarymonahan.bsky.social's "Get Your Hands Off My Fucking Rights" necklace, which I sent to my mom. Seemed like the right kind of gift for this year.
Close-up phot of an ear cuff with a circular blue ornament. It's small but very cool. Close-up photo of a hairpin with a blue rose decoration. The rose has sparklies on it. Close-up photo of a necklace with tons of beads and stones on it, mostly in purple. It's inspired by K-Pop Demon Hunters, so you know it's fabulous.

Thank you for putting this on my timeline, it's been a while since I laughed this hard at something.
Narration from "You Have Billions Invested In Generative AI," along with a pair of response options. It reads: "And what's this I hear about the generative AI industry needing...what was it...2 trillion dollars in AI revenue by 2030? Or you've wasted your entire capex?" "How many zeros is that, again?" "Is that...good?" The responses read: "HEY FUCK OFF ED ZITRON YOU DON'T KNOW FUCK ABOUT SHIT" "That actually sounds like a problem..."

Sometimes, exploration is tracking down vistas and points of interest for map completion. But sometimes, it's spending the better part of your night on a scavenger hunt to find a pirate cat and his crew of like-minded fellow cats. (And one dog who's an honorary cat.)

Visions of Eternity is a lot of fun so far. Enjoying the usual rush of map completion stuff that comes with new zones. Even after all these years, the ArenaNet folks haven't lost their talent for creating vibrant areas that I genuinely love to explore, purely for the sake of exploring.
