I haven’t completely diagnosed why people judge figures like Thiel to be “smart.” Ingredients include apparent conviction and putting big words together in surprising combinations. And talking fast.
peter thiel is another one of those guys who we are supposed to think is brilliant but every time he opens his mouth my first thought is “this guy sounds like an idiot”

This NYT puff piece on Thiel's purported move is a breathless society pages dispatch gushing over how Peter impressed the Argentine intelligentsia. (It's almost certainly planted, to push the idea that he is not meddling with US politics. He did the same in 2023.)

When the far right authoritarian AfD party won a state election last week in 🇩🇪, @nytimes.com had no problem bluntly calling it a "far right" "extremist" party. But when it comes to Trump & the GOP, we get word salad about giving the "impression" of being authoritarian.

On Tuesday, GOP senator Jon Husted said it was time to end Trump’s illegal war.

But two days later, Husted voted against a resolution to end Trump’s illegal war.

His spinelessness in service of a wannabe king is one of the many reasons why Husted is about to lose his job in November.
