prison abolition is a worthy goal, the important caveat in this is that "family/kinship systems" and "local communities" are generally carceral institutions themselves closer to prisons rather than alternatives to prisons

all im going to say is gen alpha, who are aware of climate collapse & zero economic prospects, have no leftist figures to follow, seeing all these adults in their lives putting endless restrictions on them and saying stuff like "rip to the soldiers who died in Epic Fury", well ...
there's going to be a backlash in like 10 years where the sheer weight of draconian policy passed to prevent young people from doing anything will break the barrier and policy that guts pensions & supports older people dying will be somewhat popular
