That matters because careers are rarely tidy sequences of individual choices. They unfold through organisations, opportunities, place, relationships and caring responsibilities.

BNIM gives participants room to show us what mattered and where the story changed direction.

The stories that the Biographic Narrative method reveal provide important data to drive change and led by the experiences of women in pharma. Great to be learning how to apply this method with the @pharmacareers.bsky.social team
1/ Most careers research asks people to explain their decisions. BNIM begins somewhere else: tell me the story, then listen.

On @pharmacareers.bsky.social , we’re using it to study the career life-courses of women science graduates in Ireland’s pharmaceutical industry. 🎙️🧵

Understanding how to address the gender gap as STEM and pharma careers progress is a real research gap.
The pharmaceutical & life sciences are one of the few STEM careers that have a high level of gender parity for graduates. So why does this gap widen as careers progress?

We are looking for women science graduates in Ireland to take part in this important research.

Really happy to be part of @pharmacareers.bsky.social

When women leave STEM careers, we blame pipeline or choice. PharmaCareers asks something different: what actually happens across a working life?

Get in touch to participate, or @ anyone who may be interested

As a rural researcher and geographer, working on @pharmacareers.bsky.social is bringing to light new questions on what impacts the working lives of women in STEM careers and the pharma sector. Understanding the influences from across women’s lives and in different places are important to explore

Opening the conversation and stories of women's experiences is critical. It's much more than the #LeakyPipeline explains. Looking forward to engaging with everyone who takes part in this #SETU #ResearchIreland project
The challenges women face aren't new, but the conversation about them is finally happening.

This research is creating space to ask better questions and find better answers.
