Vance: “Also acceptable: Use inherited wealth to invest in an existing company and then siphon taxpayer funds to keep the company afloat.”
JD Vance: "I want people know to get rich in the United States is to build a business or a product, not to steal from the American taxpayer. That's the message that we're sending."

Lionel’s “All Night Long” in a diaper advert leads me to realize that any song utilizing an “all night” trope is easily adapted, e.g.:

AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long” = “You Kept Me Dry All Night Long”

KISS “I Wanna Rock And Roll All Night” = “I Wanna Stay Dry All Night (And Potty Every Day)

SCOTUS actually does the right thing for once. MO’s congressional map drama is over for this election cycle, anyway.

A thread on how we got to here in Missouri, and what happens next. For that, we head back to May of 2022.

On the 18th of that month, GOP Gov. Mike Parson finally signed a new congressional map for the state's eight districts into law after a prolonged battle between hardliners and GOP leaders.
To be super clear, the federal district court did *not* "restore" the GOP map, HB1. Instead, it forbade the state from using anything *but* HB1.

However, the MO Supreme Court explicitly said the state *cannot* use HB1. That ruling is still in effect.

So we have apparently conflicting orders.

A particularly thorough and structured post
We are taught that the Roman Emperor Constantine had a miraculous spiritual awakening in 312 AD, converted to Christianity, and transformed the Western world out of pure faith. But history tells a vastly different story.

The fact that Johnson even wanted to introduce a bill locking SCOTUS at nine reveals their fears for upcoming elections. Regardless of public presentation, that’s the tell.

Inside Apple, I'm told "not a soul" supports Donald Trump's Lake Ontario rebrand to "Lake America," but the company is also resigned to making such concessions to avoid the White House's rage.

So many of the “I study fascist states, and the US is turning into one” takes suffered from a major statistical flaw, arguably one of the BIGGEST flaws that permeates policy discussions:

The awkwardly named “selecting on the dependent variable.”
The thing about Kirk's death being very much Not a Reichstag Fire is one reason I think that while MAGA has a great many fash characteristics, it's fundamentally a dysfunction of America's constitutionalism and looking for interwar central European models ends up going wrong.
A very positive sign that, nearly a year after Kirk's death, many if not most of the people punished for speaking truthfully about him have won legal cases against their former employees and compensation. Again, panicked compliance with Trumpism has only *cost* institutions.
