Every private conversation in Westminster: "Well the triple lock obviously has to go at some point".

Every commentator on Burnham: "completely mad to propose getting rid of triple lock - political suicide".
The BBC news summary this morning went seamlessly from "critics warn PM scrapping triple lock would be electoral suicide" to "critics ask if PM has nerve to make tough decisions" and I don't think it's a particularly pro Burnham stance to suggest he might not be the entire problem here.

'Which taxes do you want to raise instead?' should be the default question to anyone who calls for reductions in immigration.
Good thing that this couldn’t have been predicted almost a year ago and the government didn’t just blithely carry on doing the same thing.

Since I'm not going to Liverpool this year to discuss, a short state of play on UK EU relations and the Labour Party.

The very short version - they're terrified.

And trying to find ways to avoid the question none of which will work.

Labour figures, especially, should not fall into the trap of pretending that we have a “high” tax burden and that taxes are to blame for the living standards crisis. www.arguably.uk/p/the-tax-tr...

The sheer stupidity of Brexit:

We made it harder and more expensive for high quality, fully traceable British food to reach our largest market, while creating a porous border through which illegal, rancid and potentially diseased meat can enter Britain.

Brexit’s veterinary border theatre: when control becomes the risk
There comes a point when regulation ceases to protect the consumer and becomes an industry in its own right. Post-Brexit veterinary border controls risk crossing that line, says AIMS's Jason Aldiss.

Some unintended consequences I suspect the rise of AI agents will create:

1. Restaurants that only take reservations by hand written letter, or more likely, don't take them at all.

2. Gigs where you can only buy tickets in person.

3. Businesses that operate without websites.

will say it again:

the most effective way to curb far right agitators like Lowe, "Tommo" et. al. would be to stop their ability to earn money for it from social media or live streaming.

So much of it is grifting for revenue, not attention.
Here's Rupert Lowe MP's payments from X Corp over the past year. This man is making serious cash from Musk's platform.

Payments surged over the summer, during UK 'unrest', and when Musk was frantically re-sharing Lowe's posts...

Bleak, lucrative work if you can get it.

There is a lot of shouting about what happened in the Channel yesterday.

So I want to go back to basic law. Not immigration policies or political rhetoric.

At sea, the starting point is simple:

Preservation of life comes first under all maritime conventions.
Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics.

A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.

Brexit, the Sitcom

Mr Brexit no longer enjoys life as Europe’s most divorced man. Rooting for his phone amongst the discarded cans he texts his ex wife to tell her he’s willing to move back in with her but there will have to be changes. She will have to change. He stares at the phone waiting.
