Having moved here 26 years ago, and splitting my time fairly evenly between Calgary and small towns, I genuinely don’t know when it wasn’t a symbol of divisiveness. There have always been separatist kooks, but more importantly, that flag has always been a symbol of superiority and disdain for Canada

First, you are the one who decided to confront me. 2nd, you’re wrong. Again, the whole point I’m trying to make is the “both sides’ing” and minimizing our past failures is how we got here. We have several existential crises to fix before civility can be a priority. You’re 70 years too late.

That’s my point. If you can look back at GWB, and imagine his administration had any respect for science, privacy, or any human that didn’t own a corporation, we are not on the same side. If that’s you, you are on the same side as people saying “but RFK jr has some points” in 15 years from now.

Because this habit of white washing historical villains and pretending things haven’t progressed in a predictable (*predicted) path toward fascism, receding human rights and ecological disaster is responsible uncountable deaths and suffering, and honestly I’m just so tired.
