👇🎯 Non-fascist politicians in Western democracies simply cannot be posting at the Nazi Bar anymore. No one who claims to be a democrat, in fact, can be posting at the Nazi Bar anymore.
“As your European customers, we are watching you.”

Yeah, that’s the problem. You pay Musk money and use his website. You see him help your enemy Russia against your partner Ukraine, and you keep paying him money and using his website.

That communicates approval or indifference. It’s encouragement.
Many Starlink terminals in Ukraine are financed by Poland. Its Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has put Elon Musk on notice regarding the evolving situation.

Remembering that time when some big name accounts were arguing that X is all good now and the algorithm has been de-Elon'd. Wait, that was yesterday. The same time this was happening.
“Musk then prevented any community notes from appearing on Sortor’s post for many hours, ensuring that no one could debunk the bogus claim before it reached tens of millions of people, and suspended accounts that dug into its veracity”

Anatomy of a fake scandal
WSJ obtained video of Ken Paxton partying with literal fugitives in Dubai, so Republicans panicked and invented a story about Talarico checking into a psych hospital. It backfired.

Over the last decade, there were two hypotheses:
H1: the political right genuinely cared about threats to speech from the left.
H2: they were using campus speech wars to impose their values and silence dissent.
Today, the answer is clear, but I can't find any of the H1 people admitting their error.
After years of championing "free speech," Texas lawmakers have enabled a dramatic rise of censorship in Texas universities, banning concepts, canceling courses and closing departments seen as "woke," and even using AI bots as censors. All in the name of freedom. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

Elon Musk encouraging violence against his political opponents. There is no good reason to continue using his website.
This is a call for the retrospective execution of politicians and journalists (fantasising about trials after the revolution)

Here he has a shared project with the radicalised X site owner Elon Musk on socialising action against "traitors" + preparing for civil war

I genuinely mean this. I cannot imagine a more bleak dystopian notion than the idea of all art being turned into slop designed to coddle my exact perceived intentions.

The point of literature, film, music, and art is to be exposed to the interior lives of others. Who are these people.
maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

Research has shown that the vaccine may reduce dementia risk. Now a study has found that vaccinated individuals are almost 30 percent less likely to die of dementia.

Higher education is good, actually.
The evidence is clear: countries with lower NEET rates than the UK get there almost entirely through higher rates of post-18 education. In these countries, more young people stay in education for longer and often combine it with work.

Speaking as a journalist: I would really like to see more of my colleagues asking this question. If we take money from tech companies we can't report on them, and if somehow we do we have to disclose it. Yet when we interview academics about AI, I almost never see disclosures of their funding.
Re: “plenty of philosophers and neuroscientists”, how many of the ones you’re thinking of either receive money (employment or funding) from deepmind/openai/Anthropic or effective altruist charities etc?

i’m sorry but this entire worldview seems not just evil but deeply stupid? the far future is fake! it doesn’t exist! what matters are people here and now!

Nice to see this getting some attention. It's completely true, and I dearly wish more journalists understood where these common narratives about AI actually come from.
The U.S. AI industry is being run by a batshit rationalist sex cult, and no, I am not being hyperbolic - they’re genuinely Like That:

When A City on Mars came out, I kept having tech geeks say I was overly pessimistic. And I started saying "make me a bet." E.g. how many people will be living/working in space by 2035. Will we have a Mars base by 2040, etc.

I put up an open request for bets of this kind.

No takers. Ever.
