Bluehost is trying to charge me $540 for 3 years for my website.

What do you use, who do you recommend? What’s a decent yearly price?

There’s a grief I feel once a TV show ends.

Even if the ending is satisfying I still feel sad and lonely and miss my companions.

For a long time I felt shame about this.

But now I unabashedly “fall in deep” with the characters and storylines.

And I believe it’s made me a better human.

The fact that to quell my sleep anxiety I listen to the main segments of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver all night long makes this a most beautiful and welcome discovery. Thank you. Truly.
In better news, John Oliver's three-day stint/stunt as a corporate villain on legendary soap opera "General Hospital" appears to be going... fucking brilliantly??

I have watched this clip on a loop for like 20 mins

I really, truly need to see the full episodes NOW

Can you believe I’ve never seen The Terminator?

In our regular MMIS podcast fashion, this week @wolter.bsky.social showed me this classic film I missed in my childhood.

Give it a listen and see if I liked it more than Cobra.

Mishearing the lyrics to Evenflow and thinking Pearl Jam were so cultured because they wrote about Edith Wharton’s 1911 titular character, Ethan Frome.

This. I experienced a soft lockdown with my kid in his pre-k school after a routine meeting with his teacher/team - I scanned every corner, closet, area- putting myself closest to the door so I could shield the kids if necessary - could they all fit under the tables? In the craft closet? Scary af.
Every single day that I take a shift as a substitute teacher I have to look at where the emergency backpack is, where the looped chain and anchor for the door is, if the opaque internal window covers by doors are in good shape, and the safest corner of the room to huddle the children.
this is america. you could find yourself within 100yds of a shooting at any time, in any place. school, the grocery store, a movie theater, a block party, a public park… it happens to regular people every day. but this week we’ll get 50+ weepy op-eds because it happened to the guys who write op-eds

Dear distraction,
I appreciate your willingness to help me temporarily put aside emotions, thoughts, work, etc through various activities.

I’m wondering if we could reframe exercise as a distraction so I may enjoy the process rather than dread it?

Sincerely,
Me and my brain

I cannot endorse this strongly enough
Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?

That weird feeling when it’s the last day of a job you sought out, worked to get, knew was the work you were built for, and then realized you were taken advantage of so you have to leave - both heartbroken and with your dignity and worth intact.

Just a reminder: you and the other employees are not there to protect the company. They can’t operate without you. If they are doing y’all dirty protect each other, first. Stand together. In the end, you are each other’s future references and colleagues.

Be good to each other.

Hey fun reminder:

Even if you have the power to tell someone to do something at their job, you look like a fucking asshole by not just asking, first.

Then it might.
