This is a very serious problem for libraries, archives, and knowledge-keepers of all kinds. If you don’t control access to your collections, *you do not have collections.* If we do not have permanent access to records, stories, & sources of knowledge then our histories and memories are not our own.

I saw someone referring to the booing of commencement speakers talking about AI as a tantrum from students who don’t understand technology. That made me think that I bet machine breaking was also perceived as a tantrum. Anyway, here’s some thoughts about the Luddites.

I love this name! In Library school, this search strategy was called pearling.
So one of the things that I think is lost on AI proponents is what I call the card catalog effect, a thing I shouldn’t call it because a lot of people probably have no experience with a card catalog.
