Why don’t banana sweets taste of bananas? The banana changed; the sweet didn’t. What a single clone has to do with four trackers and seven companies. The Long View, Issue 16: allocra.co/long-view/is...

Nearly all ETF education is American. Seven Basis Points is the UK version: one ISA purchase, followed through the machinery. Allocra now does the admin the book describes: every holding checked against HMRC's reporting funds list, the gain on every sale worked with the rules shown. allocra.co/books

Men... do you have low testosterone?

If you've been near social media lately, the algorithm has probably made you ask. For the same reason, your feed keeps serving “The Only 4 ETFs You'll Ever Need.”

Algorithms reward absolutes, not nuance, because absolutes drive engagement.

UK advised investors pay about £602 a second in investing costs. The same assets, self-directed: £95. Nothing hidden, nothing added up either. So we put it on a clock, sources dated, workings shown, running total for the year so far: allocra.co/fee-clock

A crime with no perpetrator and, legally, no victim. Over 25 years, 1.5% a year in charges removes more from a £250,000 portfolio than was originally invested.

All of it disclosed, all of it signed for.

Weeks agonising over a fantasy squad. Meanwhile the real portfolio: picked with little thought, years ago, never reviewed. Same build logic: a dependable keeper, a broad back line, one volatile striker at most. Yours plays every gameweek, with your actual money. What team are you actually fielding?

Forbes parted with its top editor over a secret $6m payment from the founder of the firm behind its adviser rankings. Morgan Stanley pulled out nine days later.

Nobody proved a list changed; the badge died anyway.

Imagine your coffee shop handed you a surprise invoice: a £1 'Pouring Charge' per visit, a variable 'Taste Levy' on the beans. You'd stop being a regular.

Your ETF portfolio charges exactly like this. It just never sends the invoice. Have you checked what yours actually costs a year?

The last time Hull City opened a season like this, they beat the champions, won August's manager award, and were relegated by May.

Hot funds run the same script. Form is a small sample. Class is a full season.

If you bought clothes based only on what was trending today, your wardrobe would be chaos in a couple of years.

So why build a 20-year portfolio from this week's loudest headline? Trends are for social attention, not foundations.

Dress your money for twenty years, not for this week's feed.

I built Allocra to be my own Investment Companion: an honest view of what I hold, what it costs, and whether my funds are actually diversified. On Friday 28 August the beta closes and the site goes live. First 250 lock Founders pricing, £9/mo or £79/yr, while continuous.

Up 439% by June. Forced to sell everything by August. The recovery began the day his selling stopped.

Leverage doesn't create risk. It removes your margin for being wrong.

Wildfire alert: a simple message that could save lives.
Do financial futures deserve a siren? From April 2027 unused pensions count toward inheritance tax. Fast risks get sirens. Slow risks get factsheets. The slow ones reach more houses.

Why could Top of the Pops never exist today?

The charts stopped moving. So did the markets. Same reason - and the issuer's own files show 38% of a 'diversified' S&P tracker in ten names.

Would you board a plane with only one working engine?

Millions of portfolios fly like that: a couple of stocks carrying everything. Diversification is not a buzzword. It is the other three engines.

You chose your portfolio once. But every day you keep it, you are choosing it again - same funds, new prices, new fees, new risks. In workplace pensions, more than 95% of savers never move from the default fund. Holding is choosing. allocra.co

Odysseus sailed nine days with every bad wind sealed in a bag. Within sight of home, his crew opened it. Investors do it every year.

Why did Spain win the World Cup?

One word: diversification.

Argentina leaned on Messi; England, Kane or Bellingham.

Spain relied on Rodri: the ultimate portfolio manager.

A 500-stock index runs a third of your money through 10 names.

You know when you step into a car in August? Aircon going through the motions. You just sit there, baking. Hannah Fry's trick: rear window half open, swing the opposite front door a few times. Cool in seconds. Not magic, mechanics. A 1.5% annual fee is that baking car. The door: see it in pounds.

If someone took £24 from your wallet every Sunday night, you'd notice. When your pension does it, it's called 'a 0.9% management fee'.

On a £140,000 pension that is GBP 1,260 a year; kept invested, roughly £42,000 over twenty years. Percentages hide.

Pounds tell the truth. allocra.co/true-cost

The Odyssey is back in cinemas. The suitors never steal Odysseus' estate. They eat it: daily, for years, while the owner is away. Nothing is ever taken. The estate is simply consumed.

A 1.5% annual management charge works exactly the same way.
