Factorio just sets the level of abstraction at a different height.
Sure you have to manage supply chains but you research new technologies by putting raw materials into a machine, and getting "science packs" out.
You craft complex machines directly from raw materials by clicking buttons.

Most of the time the simulation is that you're giving high level orders to more capable experts who are actually handling the details of things like logistics allocation and payroll. That's all just baked into the "create troops" button and the vague "materials" currency.

Is more complicated than most, but you can really use it to create almost anything if you follow the processes, and most common crafting recipes are available for free on the wiki.
The only real secret ones are niche, like the Colonel's 11 herbs and spices, or Ziljan's secret alloy for cymbals.
