Snagged a few images, including one of Dobrin, who is a genius and also probably the nicest guy I've ever met. Took him four (4) years to complete the General's flight sequence.
Feathers made of laser cut satin being dressed onto a large disembodied stop motion puppet wing. The puppet had a five foot wingspan. Orange feathers fading to a dark brown One of our animators, Dobrin Yanev, animating The General puppet on set, flying over some handmade green meadow with a bluescreen background. Also a snippet from the article: Two main animators worked on the General: Dobrin Yanev handled the stunning flying sequences, and Anthony Straus animated a scene in which the General interacts with a postmaster’s van. Depending on the complexity in choreography of a particular shot, animators completed one to four seconds of animation per week. Trays of faces for the eagle puppet, The General. I painted the 3D printed texture for her face, which took several months. The faces are then printed in different expressions which are attached to the puppet's head in sequence with magnets. They look sort of like masks. Even though these are mass manufactured in the end for replacement animation, I work to make sure their color has the same handmade quality as the rest of the puppet. She was a really fun character to work on, quite proud of her
