Hot take: "I'm fine with gay people, I just don't want it shoved in my face" almost always means "I'm fine with gay people as long as I never see one hold hands." Visibility isn't an attack. It's just us, living.

Yay!

The Wolf That Chews Rocks has been accepted for sale in Waterstones and other bookshops, and should be in stock in around a month. Globally.

In the meantime, it's 25% cheaper to buy direct.

Around this time 40 years ago, our headmaster was away and handed assembly duties (which normally consisted of songs like 'Cross Over The Road') to our PE teacher who got the entire school to dance and sing along to The Birdie Song. He was arrested soon after for sexually assaulting 6 students
Bizarre things that happened in your assembly: A neighbour of one of the teachers gave us a five-minute lecture about kwashiorkor which involved him reciting a list of his favourite words (yes, ‘kwashiorkor’ was one of them). Included the unforgettable phrase, “Diarrhoea, another beautiful word.”
Some dancers once came to our school once and did a routine to Uptown Girl in the middle of assembly. I've still no idea why.

The whole "small boats" issue is a problem created out of thin air by successive right wing governments and amplified by a racist media who don't want a single brown person in this country. It's so simple it fits in one post and I can add this sentence too.

Just as well those committing wrongs against the RNLI are not holding placards supporting a proscribed organisation, else they would really be in trouble.

one of my proudest moments was being told by a former Gove staffer that he once angrily proclaimed:

"I am NOT an eldritch horror!"

in a team meeting, because of me.

The alien writing in ARRIVAL wasn't just squiggles. Artist Martine Bertrand designed a complete language of around a hundred circular logograms, each carrying real meaning, so the heptapods' communication would hold up to scrutiny. Follow us for more behind-the-scenes facts.

Drill down into this thread and check out the early versions of Take on Me. The very first version sounds like ‘60s garage rock, and Morten Harket’s initial stab at the song is completely bonkers.
Arguably the greatest song to be recorded 4 times by 3 iterations of a band under 3 different names and in 2 languages, and then remixed once before it reached number 2 (eventually scoring a number 1 when it was covered by my mate's little brother's band a decade and a half later)

I am so excited to see Andrew Scott play Ian Charleson in Elsinore.
Ian Charleson, star of the Oscar winning Chariots of Fire, was just 40 when he died of #AIDS.
He was one of a generation of artists taken from us by the disease.
We cannot calculate the full extent of that loss: the roles never played, the songs unwritten, the canvasses left blank.
