Sherwood Anderson's Poor White has a little passage naturalizing the energy of the Midwestern people through the Midwest natural gas boom. Probably excerptable (even for an in-class activity) if you have a regional/place-based part of the course.

I inherited this one from my brother, and I can hear some of what he was trying with his own music. I wish he was here to tell me about it.
