New paper from the (long-finished) Boston Area Climate Experiment shows how water stress during plant growth affects the chemistry of leaves, with later consequences for decomposition rates. Led by Vidya Suseela's lab at Clemson. 🧪 #drought

Climatic stress‐induced changes in plant chemistry alter the compound‐specific degradation of litter during decomposition
Plant litter decomposition sustains ecosystem productivity and modulates soil carbon cycling. Drought directly impacts decomposition by decreasing soil moisture and indirectly by altering plant tiss.....

Life’s a journey through a series of garden rooms for many of us in horticulture. It’s time for me to leave one room, and enter into another, into a bit of the unknown.

10 years ago I hosted my first #undergrounddinner in my garden. I did these before and after the pandemic. Friends, family, and strangers donated to attend. I paid off debt from a spinal laminectomy by cooking 5-course Italian meals from scratch—hard work!

Been rebranding from #AmateurBotAnnist to #AnnLovesPlants

My blog Amateur Bot-Ann-ist started 18 years ago and my life has changed since then. To say that I’ve grown up is an understatement.

Health and happiness is easier to communicate and I do love plants. 💚

Someday… Been wanting something like this for a long time. Quilts are one of my favorite things in life. It’s beautiful.
I only photograph quilts on the windiest days.
Generative Threads Quilt 13/13. Designed with 13 year old code and handmade with love. 🖤
Credit where credit is due: my Processing + Hype framework started as a collab w/ Joshua Davis. Forever grateful.

Tigridia pavonia, a plant my coworkers at Little Prince know from Mexico, where the bulbs are roasted and eaten. We grow them here as ornamental plants.

Considering the absurd week-end we just had, let me present you an absurd creature with a no less absurd name for #MolluscMonday 🦑

The Anadon's babakine (Babakina anadoni), a sea slug living in the Atlantic. Quite uncommon but a really cool guy, simply grazing on hydrozoans, as we should all do 🌊 🌿
