I would go as far as to say that Wolverine might be the most Sony AAA compatible character possible like Logan is basically a Sony game in movie form, and I can easily imagine a Wolverine game made out of each of Insomniac, Santa Monica, and Naughty Dog’s templates for how they approach modern games

He has a wide enough catalog of comics that you get to take your pick across the gamut of both
gritty and fantastical scenarios and villains to pull from so you get to mold your game’s version of the world he inhabits into whatever context you think makes him fit best in a modern AAA template

It’s hard to imagine a character more made for a Sony ass AAA video game than Wolverine lol—he’s a gruff old white man with a tortured past who broods about how many gruesome murders he has to do, they’re always giving him daughter figures etc., he is perfect for a Last of Us or a God of War

this screening apparently uses “laser projection” and I don’t know what difference that makes but I just know that media involving lasers is the proper way to experience 80s anime

This feels like they’re trying to advertise me driving these girls to soccer practice

It sticks out a little to me that everything feels slightly extra glossy but I don’t hate it I just notice it, feels like a rendering thing that used to be a trend a couple consoles ago but isn’t right now

Reminds me of one of the older versions of Unreal Engine or something

I think if someone took a minor editorial hand to this OoT remake and like trimmed 20% of the added design detail from even just the character models for Link that might have been enough to scrub away the one really negative part of my impression, cause I find the overall direction innocuous

I’m not mad at either game but I do have the exact same complaint about both, which makes sense I guess it’s just something underlying both of these remake projects in terms of intent that I don’t agree with, cause the result is a visual language that gets more unnecessarily busy the closer you look

With both this and Star Fox the broad visual strokes look like a perfectly reasonable reinterpretation of the N64 games but up close the character models scream “look how much texture we can show now” as if level-of-greebliness was a purely technical matter of limitations, not an art-style thing

I don’t fully enjoy game dev without inventing some technical constraints for myself as part of the process tbh, it allows me to go from being faced with a paralyzing breadth of options to choose from to being faced with enticing problems to unravel it caters to autistic programmer brain’s strengths
