Stick to subjects you know about bud, you're not making Penn or your employer look great here, "lol." You have no idea how CUNY is regarded by people who are familiar with it, but you tried to go out and make a disingenuous social media point with it.
September 29, 2026 at 4:30 PM
You're out here trying to make some policy point based on CUNY when you know absolutely nothing about the CUNY system and what it produces. You think huge churn in students is a sign of NY's "trust" in the system? That's risible. It's just a massive rent-seeking bureaucracy.
September 29, 2026 at 3:45 PM
This is ludicrously irrelevant -- California students are spending more on their *own* education because the schools are better and can command higher tuition - Chinese millionaires are spending $60k+ year to send their kids to Berkeley, but taxpayers are contributing equal amounts in NY/CA ($20k)
September 29, 2026 at 3:43 PM
How can anyone even dispute that it's bad public policy to churn out as many poorly educated people with undeserved BAs as CUNY does - as if that's a positive for the labor force? NY deserves at least one good public higher ed inst and we don't have one, with all the billions flowing thru NYC.
September 28, 2026 at 11:36 PM
Not true - Cal is just a bigger state. NY (CUNY+SUNY) per cap spending is on par with Cal (CSU + UC). The difference is *priorities* - your original point; NY is quantity at an appalling standard, Cal is quality. I invite you to audit a CUNY classroom before sounding off about CUNY.
September 28, 2026 at 11:34 PM
I attended a CUNY school (and a CSU school) - you didn't (?) You're missing the point that NY is dumping money into stamping people out with undeserved degrees, rather than using that money to educate fewer people better, as Cali does. Students enter CUNY barely literate and leave scarcely improved.
September 28, 2026 at 4:23 PM
All "social mobility" means is that it has pumped out millions of degrees allowing people to meet basic gatekeeping thresholds to get jobs in NY. Meanwhile, it has always had very poor levels of academic instruction, if that means anything anymore. Cali actually has good quality public higher ed.
September 28, 2026 at 12:12 AM
The difference is that Ivys and California's system have good academic instruction -- and CUNY is garbage on a mass scale, designed to flood the zone with bachelor's degrees for people who are by no means ready for college. I would trade CUNY for Cal State in a heartbeat.

Zelensky should suggest trump meet with "the Ayatollah Khomeini" in Tehran.

Marina Hyde only knows how to do one thing: the Withering Criticism column. Every single thing she's ever written has been an arch, sarcastic poison-pen demolition of one person or another. What a colossally deformed ego this woman has. Queen of the pitchfork brigade.

I've been informed that I am a member of his "cult." You'll have to excuse me while I go light some candles under my shrine with a portrait of the Holy Starmer.
April 22, 2026 at 10:04 PM
You wandered off from Labour, not them from you. There are real issues to deal with; NHS, taxing the rich, developing a real economy that people can earn money in - meanwhile, you have photocopied the bonkers US political narrative abt illegal immigration and wandered off into the desert of the left
April 22, 2026 at 6:09 PM
All politicians are corrupt, are you waiting for Jesus to stand for PM? "Trans" didn't exist 20 years ago, nobody GAFF about that. There are real issues to deal with. To have immigration, you have to have it regulated and enforced legally. Nobody is entitled to it. You have wandered astray w/ tribe.
April 22, 2026 at 6:07 PM
No one is here to win friendship, so I'm not devastated that you don't like me.

My political beliefs, like most people who think about policy rather than follow a tribe, are reasonable and clustered in the center. In your world, ideology is more important than anything in the real world. Sad!
April 22, 2026 at 6:03 PM
The issues matter enough to me that we need to have a left of center government, while you would rather watch Labour burn. Politics is a public discourse of negotiation, and you're determined to never get your way, so that you will remain untarnished by its impurity. How's that going?
April 22, 2026 at 5:58 PM
Mate, you're the one whose party is out of power, and always will be - and I have lost some contest? Sounds like you have been spending so much time on social media that you think that's where one "wins" while you're living in the hollowed out husk of what used to be Great Britain.
April 22, 2026 at 5:53 PM
It's so pathetic that you have photocopied the US political landscape to such a resolution that you employ "you are in a cult" with everyone you disagree with, even on the left. So childish. What an exciting "cult" this sounds like, with our charismatic spiritual leader and vessel of the gods.
April 22, 2026 at 5:50 PM
The right always rallies and unites under some fascist "daddy" the left it's always this self-serving bullshit. It's your country to lose - I find this whole ghastly show in the UK utterly pathetic to watch for the past 20 years. You've fallen off the map of Europe, almost literally.
April 22, 2026 at 5:47 PM
Politicians in a democracy don't have power; the people are sovereign, even Orban and Yoon were removed. Your only interest is satisfying yourself in a kind of endogenous reward masturbation, not public policy. It's hard to imagine what is more pitifully ineffectual than a green party.
April 22, 2026 at 5:45 PM
Voters are objectively responsible for who's in power. You failed to persuade a majority of your views, and you always will, because you keep moving left. As I said, the UK doesn't deserve someone as competent as Starmer, while the US deserves Trump because a majority was stupid enough to elect him
April 22, 2026 at 5:23 PM
I genuinely don't understand why people in the UK think that democracy means some "leader" is responsible for fixing things for you, with whom you will never be satisfied. They are just representatives - it's on you to run the country through reps with prudent and realistic policy.
April 22, 2026 at 5:17 PM
When your views are the 10% percentile extreme on either side, you don't get to have what you want, ever, although the right seems to get closer than the left. But when 50% of the left abstains or votes "tactically" you get Farage. You've lost 20 years this way mate, the UK has been trashed.
April 22, 2026 at 5:14 PM
We can agree that the UK political scene is 100% as sick as America's and you are without hope. Only difference is you think you are levitating above it in gleaming pure innocence.
April 22, 2026 at 5:00 PM
How are they going to re-evaluate? Go further left than greens? Your idea of politics is to satisfy your own internal reward for thinking of yourself as politically pure and correct. That is how the UK system is structured. You on the UK left are the ones that are going to get wiped out - by reform
April 22, 2026 at 4:58 PM
In the US, people "register" as either Dem or Rep, so they belong to the party and it is accountable to them. So at least the US has an opposition. In the UK, you act like it's not your problem to solve. Well it is. Say what you like, most in the UK left sat arms folded and let the tories win.
