According to Yukio Futatsugi, Junichi Suto, the lead programmer on the 3 Saturn episodes of Panzer Dragoon, has passed away. Someone reported on Twitter that he had died in the summer of 2020. He was still employed as general manager of the development business division at Land Ho! in 2017.

My favorite sequences are the ones where you feel a balance of approaches that are normally kept separate. For example, a great combination of coherent close-quarters action choreography with magic beams, which many anime struggle to incorporate seamlessly into moments like this

All my condolences about the passing of KyoAni founder & president Hideaki Hatta. No exaggeration to say that he's been one of the most important individuals in the history of this industry, especially if you consider that he also had a hand in IG's inception www.kyotoanimation.co.jp/information/...

He actually drew them himself, Saito loves dolls this much. The process was:
-Saito designs the puppets
-Professional troupe makes the physical props
-Saito storyboards
-Troupe performs as instructed
-Saito animates it with the live action references

I miss having a correctly operated boom directly feeding the camera. Makes everything so simple.

Playing through the beginning of Metroid Prime 4. Never played any other entry in the series so I have no point of reference but still I find it extremely uninteresting. Don't know how many more hours I have to put into this thing before it shows me anything actually fun. It's gorgeous though

Artists don’t create genres. They create ideas. The guys who have to figure out where to put it in the store create the genres.

Genre doesn’t determine the way a game should be. The way a game is determines its genre.

A game is pointless. The code of the game is not the rules of the game. Rules emerge from playing the game. What is in the game cannot be clearly discriminated from what is game adjacent.

the problem with digital compared to film in the context of independent filmmaking is you have to reinvent the wheel to make the photography recognisable as suitably "cinema". And directors/DOPs being unwilling to educate themselves on visual perception makes everything on set painful.

One of the most anticipated upgrades in recent years, never released on VHS/DVD, here's a link for the restored version of Chantal Akerman's PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG GIRL IN THE LATE '60s IN BRUSSELS (1994).
English subs resynched for this rip included.

It is almost impossible to discuss filmmaking with most people, cause they won't ever recognise that there are aesthetic facts. For some reason the idea is highly subversive.
