Alright, Asa Mitaka. What do I make of you? "Yeah, she didn't deserve all that and it's good she got dumped back into normalcy without her groomer teacher" is surface-level good in a similar way to what it is for Denji. But interrogating deeper from there is more complicated. 🧵
nvm I have Thoughts about Asa Mitaka. I am currently dragging them together so it might be a little
I don't think I'm gonna have any deep analysis on this chapter in general. Not in a meta sense, I think it's pretty surface level. It's hilarious and mean and we're all finally free and that's wonderful

part 2 ending being neither a "he's cooking" moment nor a "kill tatsuki fujimoto" moment thus finally breaking the parasociality cycle of the fandom of the figure/work "chainsaw man" by presenting the masses with an ultimately 6/10 at best non-ending ending is the funniest outcome

The reason there is no "AO3 without the freak shit" is because AO3's backbone is the freak shit.
AO3's code is public! If the puritans wanted to make their own AO3 they could do so tomorrow. There have even been attempts, and they barely got past the starting line before devolving into conflict.

I can't wait to see Denji try to murder yoshida again in a dozen chapters only for them to meet up a dozen chapters after that and go "damn that was nuts. remember the time we got a hotel and there was only one bed? Anyway we're breaking up again"

I don't think you can really say that Dems walking out of Texas and going back was pointless when it seems to have given California the time to move the ball on their retaliatory measures.

related- when we’re talking about this I think it’s important to say that Fumiko did not “have sex with” people immediately after her contract, she was raped.
there is no consensual sex with 14 year olds, ever
there is no consensual sex with 14 year olds, ever
and im not worried about it over here but i am not looking forward to people pointing at this chapter to again accuse csm of just being goonery and uncomplicated sexual titillation when the chapter is very, very explicitly about sexual abuse and the traumatic fallout of it

Noticing a trend in Chainsaw Man part 2. The social critique hasn't changed in message, it's just kind of getting louder and louder until it drowns out everything else like feedback, so deafening that the rest of the story becomes muted in the wake of its sheer rage at the powers it's criticizing.

god, i wanna make a thread about fumiko.
it makes so much sense. this accumulation of cyclical abuse, being absorbed into the system to enact the same violence done unto you—another teenager whose been beaten and exploited his whole life too, collecting bits of his body.

She genuinely does empathize with the seemingly meaningless slog of denji’s eternal life, so the best way she thinks to save him is to have him fully lose himself and bury his trauma under hers. The worst part is, Denji has shown he was willing to take an offer like this before

the other thing about fumiko’s character that has fallen into place with this chapter is her juvenile and childish behavior. she’s still emotionally fourteen, frozen and unable to truly grow ever since her mind was fractured by the contract

okay. lets talk about this for a second. people are being like "wtf fujimoto std devil ???" but just like. read every single panel dialogue fumiko says. not simply as fumiko the character but what fumiko represents within the context of this dialogue. what fumiko represents in society
i dont talk about chainsaw man these days because im in learn to sit back and observe mode but this chapter feels like another example of fujimoto being as openly literal with the storytelling as possible with what is going on but readers are missing it because of reaction shock value 😭

The "you have to be insane to last as a devil hunter" quote doesn't just apply to the devils you fight. Kishibe was talking about the system that throws young people to their inevitable deaths and teaches survivors to be abusive and distant. Like he himself became once he got older and quanxi left.
