More and more people are falling for Discord scams every day, and in an era of misinformation and deception, it's important to have your wits and knowledge of internet safety about you! Scammers and hackers are getting smarter over time, but there are often patterns and scripts to how they operate. Follow this guide and spread it around to help keep you and your friends' information safe! Take note this guide can also apply to other messengers too, not just Discord! Discord's support is generally unreliable at times, so this guide could help save your account and the years of history tired to it from falling into someone else's hands! Catch them before they catch you! Are you receiving a friend request from someone with no mutual friends/servers, and you don't have your Discord username posted publicly anywhere? Odds are this is a bot or someone acting maliciously; it's best to ignore these requests and block the user sending them. These kinds of bad actors work like telemarketers, they're going down a list/database of usernames in bulk to see if they can catch anybody. While this does not apply to all of them, most of them also tend to have an anime profile avatar, and a generic female name, usually with plenty of emojis and a broad, yet vague quote in their profile description. Do a vibe check before deciding to interact with these users! Common signs that someone might be hacked... The person DMing you is using an account of a friend you haven't talked to in a long time. The "friend" in question is acting very out of character or unusual. They are asking you to "try out a game" for them. They want you to click a suspicious link to a site you haven't seen before. They're sending you a suspicious executable (.exe) file and are asking you to run it. They're asking you if you play very popular multiplayer games out of the blue, such as Valorant, Roblox, or Minecraft, or games where you can profit off in-game items such as Counter Strike 2 or Team Fortress 2. Other things to keep in mind! NEVER run executables from unknown sources. NEVER click suspicious/unfamiliar links from strangers. Both of these methods are the most common ways hackers get access to your information and system. These methods often don't even require you to type in anything either, they're much more devious than your average scam. On Discord, you can mask links by [Formatting](themlikethis.com). Bad actors may often use this to disguise links to make them seem safe. You can hover your mouse over the link to see the URL it leads to, remember to double check! Also be wary of fake images! Another common scam is to disguise fake Nitro gifts or other "freebies" as image links that lead to malicious websites. Keep an eye out! Be smarter than them!

It's really fascinating to see white creators trying to be friends with a ton of BIPOC creators, and specifically going for Black creators especially, and all too frequently, it'll just be to gain what they want from them before they drop the person. 🫩

Technology being everywhere doesn’t mean it belongs everywhere. The tech industry wants us to believe that AI in early education is not only inevitable, but necessary. We don't see it that way. This week, we announced a moratorium on generative AI for public school students in 2-K to 8th grade.
We’re eliminating AI use for students in 2-K through 8th grade for the upcoming school year.
