here in MA people at a cafe were just griping about their first oil deliveries of the year. prices are 74% more expensive than last year.
2/n: Banning diesel exports would *temporarily* provide some price relief for most of the country, but not for New England. Because pipelines don't run that far north, PADD 1A has to import large amounts of diesel, which means it's competing with a (structurally short diesel) Europe for barrels

I don’t like bringing the personal into the posting but if you feel comfortable publicly commenting (nicely, no fed posting) on the “let’s make employers pay 100K for H1-B visas” rule proposed by DHS, I’d appreciate it. My significant other would be effected by this and I love her very much

Kind of feel like we especially don’t need fancy law explainers at the moment. “Can the president just take money when he wants?” A third grader could answer this. A Yale law prof is likelier to write the wrong answer so their 2L can work for Alito

pass a law that explicitly lists the court’s bad VRA decisions and proclaims them null and no longer valid, makes their dissents valid law, and prescribes penalties to any government official who attempts to implement or enforce said bad law

Suspension of elections in order to rig them sounds like something Grant would've sent troops to quell in the 1870s.
WaPo reports Louisiana’s governor will announce on Friday that he is suspending the House primaries where people have already started voting and redraw the map; I’d expect them to go for an all-Republican map and eliminate both majority-Black districts, not just one.

Gov. Jeff Landry (R) told Republican House candidates he plans to suspend the May 16 primary elections so lawmakers can redraw the congressional map.

a really cool proposal here from justin briley to not just break the court, but break it up--to reconstitute it as a random panel drawn from the circuits for each case

The fact that professors in math, chemistry, and biology are all 80-90% Democrats -- disciplines where the vast majority of research & teaching content is apolitical -- reinforces this point.

I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.

another person congressional dems should question at public hearings. especially these private sector fascism enablers - they will look bad and be unable to defend their actions. the goal is to learn and show how bad they are and deter others.
