Zero Mission is fantastic. I do recommend trying out Metroid NES, but don't worry if you bounce off of it. It is the Demon's Souls of its day.
Another Metroid 2 Remake is also a great way to experience that portion of the timeline, since GB may not be super appealing to you whippersnappers.
