Sway, swing, singing.
Drowned in smoky maroons,
shadows of something almost in tune.
Spin, grin, clinging.
Waxed smiles, bright as the Moon,
Wrapped safely in party person Cocoons.

Hoot-hoot pigeons, coo-coo.

Coo-coo to you too I salute.

Under all, pretend leprechaun houses,

branches bend low climbing, whispering.

Sap-sticky palms, grass on my knees,

leaf-light laughter floats in the breeze.

Sun peeks cheeky through patchwork green,

dancing shadows where I’ve just been.

Held by the wind. Front & back, envelops me with cold
kiss my cheeks rosy, touch my nose cool
cars whiz, cars cough
big city lungs puffing out breath.

Just like that, wintery skies come soft silk thrown wide
up ahead, above, & all around
a moment's glow before it hides.

The streetlights come alive, and curtains glow blue
Flickering signs of laughter, love, and loss.
Me? Curled up, comforted, tucked in. I hold hands —
With the handle of a steaming coffee
cupped close, curls of cloud climb quickly
Warmth dances around me,
The warmest nest, alone at home.

It’s closeness and beauty —
of breathing In another,
of knowing the shape of their air.

To trace the shores of their eyes,
to know where they end,
where I begin.
Close enough to catch my own reflection —
a flicker in brown, in amber,
held at the centre of their mind.

To be in a valley lush, loud, alive,
where forest green hums and tree roots jive.
A cloud drifts lazy, lone in blue,
watching, waiting, wondering who.
Winding branches whisper, ‘This way, this way’,
sturdy rocks steady the sway.
And then — an opening, hush, hush, hush,
cool relief in nature’s clutch
