The glow of the moon washes out details on the moon's surface and makes the body of the owl a silhouette, while the light shines through the tips of the wing feathers, making them glow. There are several stars visible in the background but the angle of the shot is different compared to the quoted post so there are significantly fewer stars. The owl is flying to the right and the talons hanging below are positioned in a way to make it look like the owl grabbed the moon like it was its prey.
