I don’t think the dynamics here are that complicated. Imagine a foot race where the winner gets a trillion dollars, but as the leaders of the pack approach the end line they see it’s at the very edge of a sheer 1000’ cliff. They would probably try to coordinate some slowdown.

To borrow a phrase, my grief is still too near to come up with anything coherent to say. Not having an obituary pre-written for this day isn't a function of short-sightedness so much as a stubborn refusal to accept the idea that this day would come at all, so singular was her life and her work. 1/x

That she accumulated so much wealth and goodwill and then gave so much of it back and in so many ways, it gives lie to the idea that wealth and power must corrupt. The corruption we see now among the billionaire class is *only who they choose to be*.

this is, once again, why I prefer to refer to them as the “framers” rather than the “founders” they built a framework that is supposed to be adaptable to a changing society, that doesn’t mean they should be venerated like saints
I actually don’t care what the founding fathers would say about the present and I don’t think you should either

Baby brains are so interesting. Imagine a human brain is like a smartphone. The phone itself is Lizardbrain, running primate OS that gets slowly loaded up with Human apps.
Rules of primate OS say that sleeping is done while clinging to or being held by a parent and you need to be alert on the ground
What is the developmental stage where babies go from sleepy cuddling to wide awake and performing a soliloquy/aria when you put them in the crib?

I just listened to the whole interview and it's so compelling and moving and infuriating, I want to recommend to everyone who cares about democracy and a free press. Or just a great story.

I hate talking about the ballroom bc I don't give a fuck about the White House and nothing there is sacred to me, but it feels obvious to me that allowing an authoritarian, who attempted a coup the last time he lost an election, to build a "top secret" military complex under the WH is a bad idea.

One earnest and sincere question I have for folks who position the restoration of "the social contract" as the way out of this: How can you restore a social contract among people who no longer experience a shared reality?

This is not snark. I'm asking.

You have more in common with the people of Iran than you do with anyone in this administration, any member of the technocracy, anyone who is profiting from this war, or any billionaire. When you see Iranians forming human chains outside key infrastructure sites, you should feel a sense of kinship.

RESULT: Julia Stratton has won the Democratic primary for Senate in Illinois, NBC News calls.

Stratton defeats Raja Krishnamoorthi, who was the most centrist candidate in the race & who dominated spending for a long time, and Robin Kelly.

She'll be heavily favored in November to join the Senate.
