With the DoD/Anthropic news this week, I can't help but think of my dad, who quit his first programming job back in the '80s, because his employer asked him to write software for weapons systems. I hope the current generation of engineers will have that same spine.

There is no sense in which a chatbot can "help" with your schoolwork by making it easier; if it is easier, it is less useful for actual learning (effortful practice is HOW WE LEARN) and therefore the chatbot has not helped, but has only hindered.

I know it’s tedious to qualify these statements like this, but I do want to underline that I make a discipline of not engaging in expressive hyperbole. In my judgment, the below is simply cold blooded description of the present facts. It’s a scandal.
Once again: ICE agents have shown themselves to be cowards and the lawyers and administrators giving them marching orders and running legal interference for them are fascist functionaries who should live in shame beyond the boundaries of polite society.
