I get your point. Trade imbalance is more like, "I just bought a lot of groceries ON CREDIT and now it's the grocer's problem." When other countries take our printed money all they really have is a promise to pay later. With inflation we pay back with cheaper dollars. Treasuries sold in 1996 lose.
